Arteta's unwieldy system worked best when we had drinks breaks so he could repeat those instructions. Xhaka is basically a shadow team captain, and 'gets' what Arteta wants more than the younger players.

Anyway, Xhaka got injured, Martinelli didn't start, and Arteta put Pepe there, despite him being totally ineffective on the left.

I doubt it, those 3 are amongst his favourites, Xhaka pretty much plays every game.

Never rated Luiz, great passer but his defending left a lot to be desired.

Prone to bad errors throughout his career, never forget that game in the semi final of the World Cup against Germany when Brazil got hammered and he looked utterly clueless, was captain that day as well.

Thought he would have been better in midfield where his passing would be great and his errors wouldn’t be so costly.
