I may be making something out of nothing but Ozil takes a look up before the sequence begins. He’s calculated exactly what he wanted to do the moment he saw Niles and pulled off a pass he had no right making :hail:

Tbf if that covering defender would have been beaten, niles was away and in acres of space.

We were a desperate poke tackle away from breaking completely clear.

Would have been magical.

again. i dont hate ozil. but you lot would eat the corn out of his morning dump.

nothing remotely world class in his minutes yesterday.

i want him in the squad in the hopes the best of him is what we get.
i was against the wierd standoff that happened earlier this year.

If that's world class, Ben Arfa's runs into our box were positively Messi-like.

Ozil's goal v Napoli in 2015 is WC however.

Tbf, it wasn’t one of Ozil’s better games but that gif shows at the very least the level of his decision making. How many other players would have come out of that situation with a completed pass and a potential chance for a goal scoring opportunity? Were it not for a last ditch tackle as Zedie pointed out, we could have had Niles, Lacazette, Auba, and Kolasinac running at their back three. I think Wenger said it best a while back when he said that Ozil always chooses the optimal solution and that gif is a good example of what Wenger was talking about.

I'd love it if we sold Ozil and bought Banega. I'd absolutely love it.

The man has world class skill, it's hard to deny it. He does things so simply and nonchalantly that it's almost hard to notice what he did and recognize the greatness of it.

Having said that, he doesn't incorporate that into his game consistently enough. Which is why he won't be talked about in the same sentence with the all time greats of the game, and in that lies part of the reason why fans are so torn about him.

“Almost all of the world-class athletes and other peak performers are visualizers. They see it; they feel it; they experience it before they actually do it. They begin with the end in mind.”

~Stephen Covey

The completion of that pass was never in doubt the moment a silouhette of Niles entered his head.
