Pathetic excuse
Encourage with what?
What can we possibly offer these two other than money which I'm sure they already have?
I think what he meant is that if we sign up some top players early it might show a bit of ambition and might convince them there's a reason to stay and that we're serious about challenging.
If we don't they'll look and think joke of a club and move to a decent club that wins stuff.

If we can sell him for £25m, that alone would fund Alexis's £320k a week salary for over a year and half.

Arsenal offer star duo Alexis Sanchez and Mesut Ozil 20% pay-rises for top-four finish next season
Arsenal are offering Alexis Sanchez and Mesut Ozil huge Champions League pay hikes to sign new contracts.
And Sportsmail can reveal that Arsenal have offered the star duo mega pay-rises - in the region of 20 per cent - in a bid to persuade the pair to sign.
The wage increases would be triggered once Arsenal regain their Champions League status.
The Gunners missed out on qualifying for European football’s top club competition for the first time in 20 years last season after finishing fifth.
Sanchez and Ozil have both rejected new deals in-excess of £250,000-per-week and are entering the final 12 months of their existing deals.
Both players want in-excess of £300,000-per-week, a sum the Gunners have so far refused to meet.
But the club are prepared to pay the duo much closer to what they are demanding if they commit to the club and help the Gunners to a top-four finish next season.
Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain - who is being tracked by Liverpool and Chelsea - is also likely to be offered a similar Champions League bonus.
Like Sanchez and Ozil, the England international is approaching the final year of his contract and is yet to commit to an extension.

Was it ever in doubt?
Kronke wants that CL money to help keep the LA Rams afloat.
