Arshavins agent ''confirms'' Arsenal move.

Arshavins agent ''confirms'' Arsenal move.

Postby GunnGunn » Thu Jan 01, 2009 7:49 pm

Thought i would give you all a nice laugh

Russia hotshot Andrei Arshavin will be an Arsenal player in the coming days, according to his agent Dennis Lachter.

Italian daily TuttoMercato says 27-year-old Arshavin will sign a 5-year deal at the Emirates with Zenit pocketing £18m from the transfer fee.

Gunners boss Arsene Wenger, who is a known admirer of the highly-rated star, beat off competition from Premier League rivals Tottenham and Liverpool.

Arshavin’s representitive Dennis Lachter commented on the transfer, saying:

“Andrei is rated by Wenger who wanted him to sign [for Arsenal] last summer. This transfer would please everyone but we must wait a few days for confirmation.”

French tactician Wenger refused to say whether or not Arshavin could be an Arsenal player earlier last week, but replied with a cheeky smile - typical of the coy Alsatian

Arshavin To Take Pay Cut To Join Arsenal

The midfield prompter is known for his vision on the pitch and not on the world's currency market, but his decision to protect himself against the economic downturn has led Arshavin to reduce his price.
Reports in Britain and Russia suggest that Andrei Arshavin is willing to take a pay cut in order to finalise a deal with Arsenal.

The Premier League side are moving closer to an accord with the player's club, Zenit St Petersburg, and a fee is expected to be struck at a considerably lower figure than Arshavin's market value in the summer. The economic downturn has left clubs with more modest budget constraints and Zenit are likely to accept less than £20 million for the 27-year-old.

According to a report in the Daily Mail, the global credit crunch has also led Arshavin to the decision to accept a lower wage at the Emirates than what was on offer at the Petrovsky Stadium.
The St Petersburg-born star currently has his contract arranged to be paid in euros rather than roubles, and with the varying fortunes of the euro and the sterling, Arshavin is thought to be ready to seek reduced terms at Arsene Wenger's side.

Estimates put Arshavin's wage in the €70,000 bracket, a sum which is unlikely to be commanded at Arsenal.
As such, the player is ready to knock down his price.
Wenger is determined to add cover to his squad over the winter, with an out of sorts backline only one of his worries.
Midfield options have been hindered by injuries to captain Cesc Fabregas, Czech schemer Tomas Rosicky and winger Theo Walcott.

If, IF he was to come then both he and his club would have to reduce their demands dramatically.
Not sure on the validity of this article as it is from Goal...

The Mirror were running this one yesterday as well, but I'll be damned if I can find the relevant linkage......

Not sure about this one, we seem to be constantly linked with him, and I'm sure he said no us in the summer, but not no to The Premiership.

I'm still unsure if he's coming, i think there is a possibility thought. Arsene, yesterday didn't rule out the more but he did rule out moves for Given and Arteta.

That's a shame. Arteta is a good player and Almunia needs pressure. I'm sorry, but Fabianski and Mannone aren't yet good enough to displace Almunia. Players, especially goalkeepers, thrive on competition, which is something Fabianski and Mannone aren't providing.

It could be a good deal if we get him for the right price.
