Oh how they need to make an extended version of this. Would have been so interesting to cover Nas, Big Pun, Percee P, EL-P, Lord Finesse, Aesop Rock... I could go on.

Enjoy.

Rap/Hip-Hop 1979-1999

Postby Zenith » Mon Aug 01, 2016 6:25 pm

Post/debate about anything released during the golden era.

I can't imagine anyone above the age of 25 rating Drake's music after having lived through the '80s and '90s era.

Ditto!

I know music like many things is really just an opinion and what sounds good to you. Arguing about who is good or not is really like arguing about what your favorite color is.

In hiphop though, there are artist that are great MC's/lyricist, there are artist who are great at making catchy songs, and then there are a few who are actually great at both. Drake is just like a pop artist, he can make some catchy songs the kids like, but his lyricist ability really should never even be mentioned in the same argument as the greats.

Never knew that was an actual debate. Jay Z is top 10, Nas is the greatest.

Most here think Jay Z is from what I hear honestly. Plus they had their little beef for a minute, and since Jay blew up a bit more than Nas, many think they makes him better. Nas has always been the better lyricist to me.
