Not the greatest but worth a mention:

David Dallas.

Love Hilltop Hoods too (although not exactly rap).

Also, welcome back Callum.

Not even classic rap?

I detest the sh*t that constitutes rap these days, but from the early to late 90's rap was incredible.

WTF is hipster?

Name the so called "great" rap of today and then compare it with 90's rap... You should be able to notice a gulf in quality.

Or perhaps not, I guess it must be my "hipster glasses" that make me think the albums and artists were superior back then.

My bad.

I meant "classic" as in the quality of music; indeed, rap was created in the late 70's but IMO the 90's was the golden era - that was when rap realized it's highest form in terms of artists, beats, lyrics, and albums.

kendrick is the only one from that list that i consider a decent rapper, and his latest effort is plagued with bullshit songs that are built for the media, like "bitch dont kill my vibe", what a f**k is that?

if you are into rap from right now i can suggest:
Chance the Rapper (most people hate him, i think he is an artist, he has a completely new way of understanding the craft)
Milo (his new solo effort is available on bandcamp, incredible) http://hellfyreclub.bandcamp.com/album/a-toothpaste-suburb
Shabazz Palaces (again, one of the most amazing things that is happen to rap atm)
Open Mike Eagle
Pusha T (his flow and topics are incredible, careful with production, he is surrounded by too many assholes (West, WILLIAM), he last record has 3 amazing songs and the rest is shit. (suicide, Nosetalgia, numbers on the boards)
Earl Sweatshirt.

i love how a genre die, the minute people stop understanding it.

With Kendrick, I understand what you're saying but he genuinely came out of nowhere with his first album and it exploded. Mainstream or not it's still a very good album in my opinion and I can't wait for his next one which will be out before Christmas. Lyrically, he is right up there with the best. If you haven't already heard it then listen to this new single of his - He's getting better and better.

From the list you put up the only one I know well of his Pusha T. I've been on and off with him over the last few years to be honest. I didn't like the album 'My name is my name' at all - Far too many features on it for my liking although i won't lie, I do have a soft spot for sweet serenade (Don't ask why). Apart from that it was very average.

Chance the rapper - Im very much looking forward to his album also. His mixtape last year was very good and probably the best mixtape since ASAP released LIVE.LOVE.ASAP. I've got a lot of time for him because he's got a lot of potential so it will be very interesting to see where he goes from here.
