Favourite lyrics???

Favourite lyrics???

Postby Est83 » Sun Sep 04, 2011 1:18 am

I'm currently working on a mural at a friends shop and came up with the idea of incorperating song lyrics into the design. As it's his shop I've asked for lyrics from his favourite songs. He's got good taste in music (in my opinion), and very diverse... but that also means that he can't nail down which tracks and which lyrics, so I'm hoping for a little inspiration from you guys.

I've done most of the mural, still got little bits to do, and was hopefully going to work on the lyrics tomorrow morning... so I haven't given you much time! but then I thought that this might make a decent thread anyway, even if you can't help me out.

So... yea! What are you favourite song lyrics?

Something profound, something you can relate to, something that lifts you up, something that brings on old memories, something that's just amazingly well written and just needs to be appreciated. etc etc, blah blah blah, get on with it! ;)

The muse song Butterflies and Hurricanes I think has great lyrics and is my fav song of theirs. It's an inspiring track.

See if I can dig up the lyrics online

Sounds good, thanks guys.

If anyone's got any personal favourites and can actually remember the exact lyrics that would be nice. I can remember a whole verse from one of my favourite tracks  jus sayin' :hiding:

So far we've got:
"How many special people change" From Oasis, Champaign Supernove (his favourite Oasis track)
"For Each A Road" From Ian Brown, F.E.A.R (just a track he feels is well written, and it is.)
"The revolution will not give your mouth sex appeal" From Gill Scott Heron, the Revolution Will Not be Televised (as a homage to the late great man).

I think the Oasis track is a good example of a song that's probably not the best written (sorry UFGN), but the lyrics are there just because it's his favourite Oasis track.

His taste is diverse like I said, so anything from Stevie Wonder, Marvin Gaye, James Brown, Beatles, Kinks, The Who, something like Up The Junction, Weller, The Jam etc. Gonna put some old skool hiphop in there as well somewhere. It's all welcome lol. Something more obscure wouldn't go a miss either.

But like I said, this thread would make a good thread anyway (hopefully), so even if someone's lyrics that they don't think will "fit in", post it anyway and ignore my lil problem.

So, so you think you can tell Heaven from Hell,
blue skies from pain.
Can you tell a green field from a cold steel rail?
A smile from a veil?
Do you think you can tell?
And did they get you to trade your heroes for ghosts?
Hot ashes for trees?
Hot air for a cool breeze?
Cold comfort for change?
And did you exchange a walk on part in the war for a lead role in a cage?
How I wish, how I wish you were here.
We're just two lost souls swimming in a fish bowl, year after year,
Running over the same old ground.
What have you found? The same old fears.
Wish you were here.

the part in bold i couldn't tell ya why but i just love that part..

it's wish you were here by pink floyd but i'm sure you know..

oh and how about great gig in the sky try using those lines.. :smartass:

This looks interesting.

I'm not actually too keen on the one's I've already got. One's from his favourite track, one's obvious, and one sounds a bit silly when it's taken out of context. The lyrics are gonna flow into eachother, no spaces between the letters or the verses, just alternating between white letters and black letters to seperate the different songs (the whole mural is black and white).

The lyrics are supposed to make a visual impact more than anything, but I thought even when altogether the meanings would still be quite striking and possibly thought provoking... some don't as you can see.

... this is harder than I thought
