The actor who played the father of Carrie Mathison on Showtime's "Homeland" has passed away.

James Rebhorn died in his home on Friday, his rep confirmed to The Hollywood Reporter.

The cause of his death has not been revealed, but Rebhorn may have died from skin cancer, according to a TMZ report. He was 65.

Rebhorn, who appeared in numerous supporting roles on television and film, also had a recent recurring part on USA's "White Collar" as Special Agent Reese Hughes.

The Philadelphia-born actor's career dates back five decades, and includes highlights such as roles in "Scent of A Woman," "Independence Day" and "Meet the Parents," among others, according to his IMDb filmography.

Rebhorn also made an appearance in the "Seinfeld" finale in 1998, as the district attorney who sent Jerry, Elaine, George and Kramer to jail, THR notes. He has also guested on "The Good Wife" and "30 Rock."

Upon hearing the news, "Resurrection" actress Frances Fisher was among the first to tweet her condolences Sunday.

"Shocked and saddened to hear of James Rebhorn's passing," she wrote. "Jim was a consummate actor with whom I had the pleasure to work when we were young."

Rebhorn is survived by his wife Rebecca Linn. They have two children.

The first season's really good. The 5 or so first episodes of the 2nd season too. You can stop after that though.

I've only seen the one episode so far of season 4. Put other shows on hold whilst trying to get up to date with this. Nearly there.

I wasn't really expecting anything from the 4th season given that s3 was utter shite, but for now, the season has been great.

It starts a bit slow-ish. But when the plot thickens the standard reaction is - holy fook. (Has been for me at least)

It has been a good season. Still no getting round the fact that the main character is incredibly annoying. It would be a great show without her
