TV Show of Hannibal? Ah, cool! Never seen the movies but always wanted to, are they tied in or do they tell the same story should I watch them if I'm going to watch this?

It's a loosely based interpretation on what he did before the Silence of the Lambs but, set today.
Hannibal is played by the baddie in James Bond Casino Royale (I think), the one who's eye bled.
And Agent Crawford is played by Laurence Fishbourne.

I'm up to date with the US (episode 9). Really enjoying it. I highly recommend it to all!
