Boardwalk Empire

Boardwalk Empire

Postby gzagee » Tue Feb 01, 2011 10:00 am

Starts this evening on Sky Atlantic but has already been aired in US.
Apparently the first episode is the most expensive pilot episode ever produced in TV history.
It's won many nominations and awards.

I think I'll tune in tonight.

gutted,got cable not sky
this would have been a lovely thing to come home to after the game tonight
i read that they went with buscemi over james gandolfini for the lead as they wanted to go for a less of a stereotypical mob boss
i love buscemi and when i read he was an ex fireman who clocked in to help on 911 my respect went even higher.
i,ve also read its the best thing scorsese has ever done so expectations are high.
may end up getting a box set
thats how i watched the sopranos
the schedulars played fast and loose with the timing of it sticking it on at stupid o,clock over here

Didn't know they overlooked Gandolfini for the role, but then he wouldn't strike me as the kinda guy who looks part politician/part gangster. Whereas Buscemi I spose looks more the part.

I noticed Stephen Graham plays Al Capone. He's done well since Snatch.

i have,nt read the book but the impression i got from the article i read was that the books character was a lot more akin to tony soprano but the producers wanted to distance it from that show.
you are right about stephen graham[not all cab drivers are scummy men though]lol
i liked snatch and i reckon scorsese fancied him in his ensemble after that and using him in gangs of new york
other highlights are this is england[though highlights would have been better than the ginger wig he donned for billy bremner in the damned utd]terrible hair very good film
he was a true life gangster [ baby face nelson] in public enemies with johnny depp
another film i enjoyed that did,nt set the box office alight
must of hit it off with johnny depp coz his just finished the new pirates of the caribean filum.

Steve Graham has that ruffian's look about him, lol. And he can refer to a good range of accents.
Forgot he was cast in Gangs, didn't realise he was in Pirates (thought that's not my type of film).
Never knew there was a book.

the 1st pirates film was very good
the subsequent 2 have diminished with each one but i still think they have been enjoyable romps
as a stones fan watching depp doing keef richards in a film holds a certain facination

Bravo's gone mate. Gutted about that as they show Sons Of Anarchy(Which they are repeating on 5USA, so hopefully new series on there).
I miss Bravo cos they did show some good manly shows.

Will be watching this when i get home from work, I do like this US Drama's and HBO is the king of them

Agree Gman although it was predictable in some parts and AlCapone accent sounded a bit Northern English at one point..I too will be watching tonight.. I enjoyed it.

I HATE the new Hawaii 5-0, they dont even wear Hawaiin shirts, and always have bullet proof vests on

Blue Bloods is quite good

Treme looks like it will be fantastic, it is from the same makers of The Wire and features a lot of the same actors
