New Star Trek Movie

Getting a bit carried away with this film of the year stuff lads. As Bennis said its a very enjoyable summer film but come on, film of the year? The script is bad and some of the acting isn't exactly oscar worthy. If special effects are all you are interested in then it may be film of the year, I tend to look a bit deeper than that.

Besides, I am much more looking forward to Terminator.

In some people's opnion, it is *that* good.

Script and acting, in my opinion, were bang on the money, in terms of the source material, and show it was endeavouring to emulate. Some people find the homage factor makes this film, even those who "just like special effects"

I stand by my assertion, this will be a contender for, if not THE film of the year.

Terminator isn't even out yet, so it might be crap for all we know, although it does look decent - does look like a predominantly effects film though

I watched the original series as a kid, that's about it.

Its a good film man but its not exactly the Godfather. Its enjoyable but don't expect it to be ground breaking or anything. Its your typical summer "blockbuster".

It is much much better than the Godfather imo.

As you can see by my over use of that smilie I am shocked. You think a summer blockbuster that would be nothing without special effects is better than one of the greatest films ever made?

Not trying to be confrontational Rev I really really am shocked.

Yep, the Godfather is boring, i really don't rate it. I know most people don't share my view though. The same thing goes for the Beatles, when people hear how lowly i rate the Beatles and the Godfather they often react like i have said something terrible.

I really don't think this movie would "nothing without special effects".

I think the point of the film has been missed by some people. It's a homage, a re-invention of a cult phenomenon, and it does an incredible job doing this.

I think it's a little short sighted to say it's just about effects.

Also, I didn't think the Godfather was any great shakes, just my opinion

goodfellas is much better than the godfather although if you take the godfather as full story rather than 3 films it is good

And i like 2 beatles songs thats it lol i remember the thread on here i was queen all the way

I like Goodfella's too, Carlito's way is my favourite gangster flick. I remember that music thread, i voted queen too (obviously) although i think Queen are overrated too.

I agree with GES that Star Trek would not be "nothing without special effects". The acting and character portrayal (bar uhura) was fantastic. The trouble for me is the script is poor which holds the film back in terms of greatness. Also there is a serious storyline flaw too.
