A.k.a. In the name of the Father. Be hard pressed to find a story better told than that imo.

Guieseppe is dead mooonn!

I am not ashamed to say that I cried at that movie.

As for Shawshank the first time I saw it I struggled to watch it all. I then gave it another bash a few years later when it was on Channel 4 and I loved it. Maybe try watching it again?

The Shawshank Redemption may have been over hyped, but what great film isn't? Name me one character in the films I mentioned that you actually cared about. We cared about Andy, we cared about Red. Shawshank is a story about people, its brilliantly written and brilliantly acted, at times its slow but thats not the point.
One of the best scenes in The Godfather was when they were all sitting around talking, there was no violence or swearing, but you got drawn in. Maybe if Shawshank had more explosions and shiny things it would be better appreciated.

I hope this post isn't directed at me.
I've never even seen Transformers and I thought Cloverfield was shite!

You must be thinking of someone else mate.

I think you view of Shawshank mirrors the initial views of many (as it was a box office flop), but as ADS says give it a little time and watch it again and you will hopefully see it for what it is.........A beautifully told story with amazingly subtle acting and direction...........

OK, I'm going to make this really simple.

I've kept quiet about your return Fabrestuta, but if you insist on posting on threads that I create, can you at least reign in your habit of casting arrogant and patronising assumptions at people who dislike you anyway, and whom you know nothing about?

I happen to have a very varied taste in movies, I think it's called being open minded

I've kept out of your way, but you just can't help it can you?

Play nice, or piss off, it's that simple sunshine

You want a wonderfully told, thought provoking, bittersweet, fantastically written story?

Watch Withnail & I.

My favourite film of all time, which is odd since I only watch shit films :dontknow:

It is indeed mate.

And testament to the genius of the movie - you care about Withnail even though he is a complete bastard. The end is extremely poignant when you realise that he is actually a great actor, but now has nothing, and will probably die alone, of alcohol or drug abuse.

Very moving, and very effective.
