David Lynch - what a man. The painter-turned-filmmaker. The pole-opposite of your average, obsequious, business-minded director who is dead-set on gratifying the demands and expectations of the producer, investor and viewer.

A creative, eccentric maverick who does not settle for being an adapter of another's instructions, who, instead, pertinaciously ensures his work is a kosher reflection of his own extraordinary imagination and train of thought.

Film art in its purest form. The process is the purpose.

Considering the incredible oeuvre of these two gurus, I don't really feel a need to rank their work, but here's my take -

Scorsese
Underappreciated: Alice Doesn't Live Here Anymore, Casino
Overrated: Shutter Island
Favourite: After Hours, Taxi Driver, Mean Streets, Goodfellas

Kubrick
Underappreciated: Eyes Wide Shut, Lolita
Overrated: None
Favourite: Dr. Strangelove, Paths of Glory, The Shining, A Clockwork Orange

Dr. Strangelove is a top 5 movie for me.

Love General Ripper.

@ Zenit and Ang, what's your take on Tarantino?

How can Full Metal Jacket be overrated when everyone hates it?

It's amazing while they're in boot camp but horrible once they leave.

Crazy to me that some rate it as one of the great war movies.

Once Upon a time in Hollywood.

What a weird movie. Freaking great tho, almost 2 movies in one.
Many scenes are equal parts hilarious and great drama.

I gotta applaud Tarantino for doing something different yet so personal. This is truly a love letter to Hollywood and Tarantino's passion for cinema. An okay 1st act, a good 2nd act, and a MOTHERFUCKIN' GREAT 3RD ACT
