Indie Brit Gangster films....
Was watching Gangster Number One a few weeks back. Great film. It was released at about the same time as a bunch of other gangster films but was far superior to all the others. Paul Bettany is awesome in it

Peter bowles ( yes he of to the manor born) was mesmerising as the gangster
Although as a play it was more a series. Of monologues
So I was intrigued when it was made into a movie
I saw it in a preview cinema in wardour street( long story, won't bore you)
It felt like paul Bettany had crash landed in from another planet
He had that otherworldly quality that funny enough Malcolm McDowell had as a younger man
The talk to camera was the best I had seen since Michael Caine in Alfie
I am so surprised that with the success of something like lock stock that this wasn't an absolute huge hit
I hope it maintains its impact because it's a while since I saw it

Did you see the Almeida's production of 1984?

No mate
I just had a look through the almeida archive and the last thing I saw at the almeida was the late Henry ross in 2006 with Andrew Lincoln. I don't seem to have been to many plays in the last 10 years
Seen quite a few musicals though
Was it good.? It transferred to the playhouse and had quite a run there
I did see glengarry glenross in the playhouse just before Xmas
That seemed very badly dated
