Upcoming Films

I know we use the "Last movie you watched thread" for pretty much all film-related talk but I thought it'd be nice to have a separate threat to post trailers, posters, news etc. about films set to come out in the coming weeks and months.

First thing I want to post is the new trailer for Anomalisa, a stop-animation film directed by Charlie Kaufman. Looks like it's going to be awesome.

Movies I'm looking forward to, among others:

- Ingrid Bergman in Her Own Words

Documentary on the life of one of the most legendary screen actresses. Still remember the wonderful homage Sidney Lumet paid to her in the long-take - the only of that movie - when she talks to Hercule Poroit in Murder on the Orient Express.

- By the Sea

Directed by Jolie. Stars her and Brad Pitt. Should be a good romantic drama.

- Secret in Their Eyes

Not a fan of remakes, but will watch this regardless. Will no doubt be a Hollywood watered-down PG version.

- Carol

A feminist-lesbian drama starring Rooney Mara and Cate Blanchett.

- The Danish Girl

Another of those "queer" stories. Eddie Redmayne looks very convincing as a transgender.

- Hitchcock/Truffaut

Need I say more? :hail:

- Son of Saul

A Nazi-era horro-thriller-drama...

- Concussion

Will Smith in a sports drama - should be good.

Carol is the film on that list I'm looking forward to the most, although I'll likely go and see The Danish Girl as well because of Redmayne.

There's so many good films coming out actually, especially around January in the UK. In the space of a couple of weeks there'll be The Danish Girl, Joy, The Revenant, Sleeping With Other People, The Hateful Eight, Creed, The Big Short, Concussion, Spotlight, Youth and Room all out in cinemas.

Oh yes, there's Creed too.

Sleeping with Other People looks like a stereotyped rom-com. Can't say I'm interested. And, I'm also uninterested in the Hateful Eight. Don't know why. The trailers look okay, but not exciting me. Not being a huge QT fan may be the reason.

Room and Youth, both, sound good too.

I doubt I'll go see Sleeping with Other People in the cinema as there's so much else on but I'm always open to a decent rom-com every now and again. It's had mixed reviews but it's meant to be pretty funny as well. Also, anything with Alison Brie in it will interest me at least a bit. :cloud9:

I know what you mean re: The Hateful Eight but I've not seen a Tarantino movie I didn't like yet so will definitely go and see it on the big screen. I read the other day though that it's 3 hours long and has an intermission (!) in the middle as well.

Awww @ the intermission

Thought it was exclusive to Indian Cinema these days.

Talking of it, anybody interested in the Bollywood version of Prisoner of Zenda (apparently, not confirmed) - Prem Ratan Dhan Payo? It features Bollyweod's leading star, Salman Khan.

Cripps may know about it.

About QT, his movies are usually okay, but they don't do it for me. I still think True Romance is his best. Pulp Fiction is up there, but God I find it overrated. <gasp>

I enjoyed Kill Bill too. Generally because I like revenge movies. Sympathy for Lady Vengeance is one of my favorite movies. Femme fatale is always an alluring concept.

Looking forward to the Independence day.

I was looking through this the other day and noticed a lot I can't wait to see.

A new trailer for Quentin Tarantino's The Hateful Eight has just been released;

I'm still not taken by it but this trailer makes me more excited than the first did.

I like the look of it. Walton Goggins always delivers.

Poor man's The Revenant imo.

Looks like a dud, a Western action/comedy doesn't interest me in the least.

If it really is Tarantino's last movie he may be going out with a fizzle.

It's not his last movie. He has said he wanted to make 10.

"I like that I will leave a 10-film filmography, and so I’ve got two more to go after this. It’s not etched in stone, but that is the plan. If I get to the 10th, do a good job and don’t screw it up, well that sounds like a good way to end the old career.

so no idea where the article gets the "to retire after h8teful 8" thing from

Can't understand the comparison to The Revenant in all honesty, aside from the fact they come out around the same time and are both set in a snowy environment.

Far too early to judge in my opinion, hard to tell what the film's even about at this point let alone how good it'll be. I'll be surprised if it measures up to his very best work but I still don't think it'll be a dud.
