As a great man once said

Genuinely think there should be a World War 3 so we can have another Band Of Brothers series

Not exactly a war movie but Hotaru no haka is one of my favorite films

If we're talking series I'd recommend Generation War

Also what exactly constitutes a war film? Must it be based on all out open warfare?

For example would a cold war story count? Guerrilla warfare?

Jarhead and Schindler's List are two of my favorite war movies, and there's hardly any fighting in either of them.

Imo, as long as a movie's plot is relevant to the aspects of a real-life war (e.g., Jarhead-Gulf War & Schindler's List-WW2), then it's fair game, even if there is a dearth of action.
