SPR
Platoon
The Longest Day
Hurt Locker
Aaron Ramsey's magic, he wears an Arsenal hat. Sir Alex said come play for me but Aaron said f**k that. Ramsey is a Gooners fan, he wears his shirt with pride, he plays for Arsenal FC, red and white army by his side!

Its probably the best medieval war movie.. Although i am a Ben Hur fan..

they should make more movies like that.

Its just the crusades and medieval time films that do it for me. A bit more brutish riding nto batlle with a longsword instead of hiding with a riffle.

Gladiator has got to be up there....

Nobody has said 300 btw...

i was thinking gladiator too, but then i decided that i wouldn't class it as a war movie, certainly not in the traditional sense of a real war movie.
rather an action/drama about one mans fight for revenge for his families murder.
it's just like most action/thriller movies only it happens to be set in roman times and there's one battle at the beginning. after that it's not really got anything to do with war.

ZULU is still hands down the greatest war movie ever :)
another fantastic one which is an almost no-name is 'BIG RED 1', which is superb.
saving private ryan another stand out.

other notable movies;

enemy at the gate
blackhawk down
hurtlocker
platoon
the alamo
tobruk
bridge on the river kwai
desert rats
the dirty dozen
when trumpets fade
the longest day
we were soldiers
defiance

I prefer the olden time war movies too. Much more compelling than just people shooting at eachother. I saw a really good one about the Chinese Dynasty wars but forget its name

would "The Hunt For Red October" be classed as a war movie then. I know there isn't any battles to speak of, but it is in essence a war movie

Love a lot of the movies mentioned here. Bridge Too Far is quality.

Letters from Iwo Jima is a good one, only saw it once, but it's fantastic.

braveheart

some of the recent war movies dont really excite me, with gay directors trying to unglamourise and make them more realistic, and leaving you drooling as to whats gonna happen next, whos gonna get super killed or whatever, then the credits start rolling

f**k it, i want to see them get trained up, "get f***ked in the ass" by either gettin injured or the enemies 20 times as big, win the battle, then shag a bird (preferrably a topless scene thrown in)
