Band of Brothers pisses on any war film tbh

But i'll go for Saving Private Ryan and Full Metal Jacket

Does Schindlers List count as a war film?

Does Jacob's Ladder count as a Vietnam movie?

If so that is my favourite.

Conspiracy (2001) is a fantastic film with a stellar cast of great actors.

Anyone else here think that Dunkirk was a huge disappointment?

Also, I'd say the Pianist is my favourite ( I'm a huge Chopin fan so I couldn't not like it), but I can't help but have mixed feelings about it because of Roman Polansky.

And, yeah, band of brothers shits on any war movie regardless

I liked Dunkirk but it wasn't as good as I thought it would be

Also what did you think of The Pacific?

No.

My only complaint is you couldn't hear any of the dialogue between the pilots because the engines were so loud.

Enjoyed it much more when I watched it again on blu ray with subtitles.

Same people who did band of brothers did this.

On its own, it's pretty decent. Compared to B.O.B it's a pile of monkey crap.

I think my main problem with it was whilst it is world war 2, it wasn't based in Europe which is where the main war was. No one cared about the war in other parts of the world.

Hell, if Hollywood didn't make the GOAT film Pearl Harbour, doubt anyone would've known about it

That was kind of the point, especially when contrasted with the situation towards the end of the film when Tom hardy decided to be a f***ing GOAT. The madness when there was all to fight for, the silence when in serenity when you are already dead. That contrast was a thing of beauty. I did enjoy the film, probably not as much as I expected but then not surprising given:

Saving private Ryan. No other war film comes close. The D day landing scene will stay with me forever and gives a visceral account of what it must have been kind of near to (there was a period where I was really into reading up on WW2, the sheer numbers and affect on the modern world still trip me out).

Inglorious bastards for individual scene in that farmers cabin. The tenseness, the story that was told, that look on the farmers face.

Forest Gump (probs my fav film tbf) doesn't properly count, but the scene where bubba dies still draws a tear from my eye and I've seen that film 100s of times.

Full metal jacket. Still love it after all these years. NO SOUL BROTHA

Honourable mentions:

Band of brothers

The Pacific

Ffs i wasn't ready. Absolutely epic mini series, the both of them. Would recommend to anyone regardless of whether you're into war films or action in general beautifully written and gut wrenching.

Generation kill - really enjoyed this. Same guy that made the wire made this. Similar styles in that it's warts n all and a great critique of how f***ked the system can be.

Tbf most focus at the time was what was happening on peoples door steps, but it's also widely regarded as one of the worst theatre's to have fought in because of the absolutely horrible conditions and enemy that gave absolutely no quarter.

It was also the setting for the 1 and only time in human history a weapon of mass destruction was used on a human population, which wiped out 350,000 people in seconds. That's like wiping the population of Croydon off the face of the earth instantly.
