When Lewis and Rosberg both finish the race with no car troubles, there is only 1 winner.

What happened to Ferrari? When I used to watch F1 religiously, they were dominant. Schumacher and Rubens Barrichello. Mclaren/Mercedes were the only team to even hang with them. There was also a tire controversy. Ferrari and one or two other teams used Bridgestone and the rest used Michelin.

Now they all use the same tires?

Red Bull was complete shit. Williams/BMW were just getting off the ground and Alonso was driving for Renault. You could see he was very talented. Now it's Mclaren/Honda?

I lost interest because none of the overtaking took place on the track. It was all pit stop strategy.

My how times have changed.

Ferrari can no longer spend the most and Mercedes were just the most advanced in the hybrid engines - everyone has improved but so have they and they've stayed at the front.

Ferrari n Red Bull are fighting for 2nd best. McLaren have been shit in hybrid era cos Honda engine is so underpowered, Alonso gave up waiting on Ferrari to give him a car he could win with...although he almost won 2/3 titles despite a massively inferior car to Vettel.

The sport is dying but they are starting to slowly repeal the shit rule changes they made to take it back to the great sport it once was.

Has the racing in general improved? I just lost interest when it felt like the engineers in the garage crunching the numbers were winning the races instead of the talent of the driver on the track.

Crunching the numbers on a lighter fuel load compared to lap times with a full tank of gas or changing/not changing tires seemed to be what decided the races, not necessarily the talent of the drivers.

no the racing is largely shit, it's even more how you are saying now, all about strategy and basically a fight for 3rd place from everyone not in a Mercedes car. Even between the two Mercedes it's basically whoever gets pole and doesn't have their car blow up.

F1 is down the toilet atm, they really need to get refuelling back and get Pirelli off the tires. Also scrap the in season tokens for improvements on the car.

Verstappen has brought a bit of fresh air because he is a racer and just doesn't give a f**k, however, most of the other drivers and the FIA are trying to take that away from him.

Looks link rosberg has it under control, Lewis is going to have to back them up and maybe even take rosberg out and try and get away with it looking like a racing incident.

Lewis looks likes he's backing Rosberg up. Could get interesting here!

lucky boy rosberg, probably the least skilled champion since Jenson Button, oh well hopefully next year Hamilton will get his reliable car back.

I like Rosberg but it is abundently clear that reliability issues are the primary reason he won this year. Hamilton is, and even this season was, miles ahead of him in terms of racing talent. Even Vettel is showing that he is not all that now he is at Ferrari which is what people were saying all along when he was winning his titles.

Hamilton, Senna, Schumacher and Prost are miles ahead of everyone else in terms of talent in the last 30 or so years. They could win many polls/races, across multiple seasons even with the 3rd or 4th best car and when they had the best car they dominated as well.

Tier 2 champions have been Hakkinen, Alonso, Mansell, Piquet (just), and the rest (Villeneuve, Hill, Button, Vettel and now Rosberg) are tier 3 or even 4.

I am happy for Rosberg as he is a solid driver and a nice guy but he is very vanilla and in truth doesn't really deserve the title this year (which is why it is being overstated so much how he does).

Alonso tier 1 imo, what he did in that crappy Ferrari against Vettel's Red Bull was insane. If he was at Mercedes instead of Rosberg then Ham would have no titles in the last 3 years.

Alonso is arguably tier 1 (I was 50/50 like Piquet) but I disagree that he would have beaten Hamilton to the titles. He could have but it is not a given, Hamilton is faster than Alonso and I would take fast and ruthless over smart and consistent. Personal taste though on that one.

Fair, agree to disagree on that one :P Would be the dream battle to see either way, from the current crop of drivers those two are miles ahead of the rest. Verstappen could get there.

Was hoping Rosberg would get dropped after this season but he's obviously done well enough to keep the seat and got a new deal iirc. Alonso and Hamilton at Mercedes would be insane. I feel for Fernando, he'll never get the credit he deserves in the future because his record won't reflect his abilities but rather his poor career decisions.
