MotoGP superstar Marco Simoncelli succumbed to injuries following a tragic lap 2 crash at the Malaysian Grand Prix.
Simoncelli, who was running in fourth position, lost the front in Turn 11 and slid across the track into the path of the oncoming Colin Edwards and Valentino Rossi, who both struck the fallen rider. The 24-year-old Italian's helmet came off in the incident and the race was immediately red flagged.
Edwards and Rossi escaped injury.
The race was subsequently cancelled.
More as it comes in….
RIP. Really was a horrible crash. Was watching the race this morning at 4am here, as I got up early to watch AC before Arsenal.
The back end lost grip as he was going through the turn, the front end regained grip as he was sliding bringing him right back into the racing line, nothing the other riders could do but run right into him... horrific doesn't do it justice.
Was my favorite rider to watch this season...
