Formula 1 season 2010 chat thread

All manner of confusion at the start with teams not knowing which set of tyres to use. Button was one of the few that stayed on slicks, and it seems to have paid off so far, but down comes the rain again.

Alonso penalised for starting too quickly.

Not a bad race so far, the safety car has had a couple of circuits already.

Jensen Button showing his championship win was not all about the car.

I didn't even bother watching it today, I can't remember feeling less interested in F1 than I feel now. The people in charge have completely ruined the sport.

Yes. All the cars had to pretty much stop racing in the last 10 laps because of the state of their tyres, not really what you want to see in F1.

The thing which totally mystifies me is why aren't the teams allowed to test their cars?. How does not being able to test the cars contribute to the competitiveness of the sport?. To me it seems to be an anti-competitive measure and all the rules surrounding the tyres, how is this encouraging competitiveness?. Then there is the no refuelling rule, refuelling with the strategy and tactics surrounding it was one of the keenest competitive elements of the sport. I simply don't understand the thinking behind these measures.

I wholeheartedly agree, I don't understand the thinking either.

Do you think the reintroduction of a second tyre manufacturer will make things better or worse on the tyre front?

I'm not sure but I doubt if there will be two tyre manufacturers because I read somewhere that Bridgestone are pulling out at the end of this season.

They mentioned it in commentary as well, but didn't say why.

Red Bull 1-2 again.

The fact that they are not out of sight in the constructors (not even second) and that their drivers are not romping it in the drivers (a long way from it) is astonishing.

I don't like the qualifying as it is now, it's very predictable and the only excitement comes right at the end of the process. With the old qualifying sessions there was a real immediacy whereby any driver could go out at any time and put himself in pole position. With this qualifying set-up grabbing pole can only come in the final session.

Hamilton out at the death and Vettel with problems but that wasn't enough to stop it from being a dire race.
