Maybe the site was added to a new index recently and unleashed the spam, so to speak. I'm seeing a couple bots I hadn't seen before

Bloody hell, the floodgates really have opened.

"And in the red corner, weighing in at 0 pounds, from somewhere shite like Kazakhstan, it's Joe the scummy spambot"

"And in the blue corner, with a collective weight of a whole galaxy (in a good way), from various locations around the globe, it's this site's fearless admins/moderators"

Are you ready to rumble? (Or buy a fake rolex?)

These things probably have auto-proxy shizzle... as soon as the IP gets banned, a new will be made automatically.

Most browsers now have an auto proxy extension you can add, so it makes it easier for spammers.

Call me an idiot but why do they do this? Do they gain anything from it?

I don't know if you can do it here or not, but other forums that I'm on have a 30day wait period for new members before they can post new threads. Maybe if we did that here it would annoy them enough to stop trying ?

Maybe there should be limited access for all new members?

For example; they are allowed to read topics but can't post in them untill they made a legit introduction

As soon as they introduced themselves properly/made a few replies in the same thread, grant them full access?

Other forums have a system where you first 3 posts MUST be approved by mods before they even appear. If one isn't approved then you start again from scratch.
