They're really going to miss Schalk Burger, he is an exceptional player.

Burger is a nutter on the field. But to beable to call upon Brussow who effectively dumped Worsley out of the test squad is some back up. And let's not forget Smith and Spies are impressive in their own right.
That battle for middle earth will be fascinating!

SA win 1st Test 26-21

For 60mins there was only one team in it. SA annihilated the Lions scrum, our lineout was abysmal and their pack was just too strong, the only ray of light had come from the Roberts/BO'D axis (who were breaking and creating havoc in the Boks backline at will).
Then at 26-7 SA decided to take off their players with 20mins remaining thinking the game was won. Croft brought the Lions back into it and then Phillips scored a try, and if we hadn't conceded so many pens in the scrum who knows what might have been?

My thoughts: Vickery couldn't hold The Beast (dunno the fellas name), he should be replaced by Adam Jones
The front 5 need to be much much more physical at the coalface. The Boks terrorised them for 60-65 minutes.
Mears lineout throwing was awful. Rees played better as a replacement.
However, throughout the match the Lions backs showed they were capable of breaking the SA defence. So that was very very encouraging.
The Boks seem to tire after an hour & Lions fitness and cameraderie nearly snatched victory from the jaws of defeat.
Not all is lost. There are positives for next Saturday.

Prophetic words my friend... prophetic words.

All they need do is work on this. I think The Beast was coming in at an angle which made it difficult for Vickery but he should be experienced enough to adapt. When Adam Jones arrived he seemed better equipped but then again, i think The Beast had departed by then.

FFS the Lions concede a pen in the last seconds and Boks kick to win the series.
