British boxer in intensive care

Eastman on the defensive against Sam Webb at York Hall
Light-middleweight Gilbert Eastman was on Saturday in intensive care after surgery to remove a blood clot on his brain following a bout on Friday.

Eastman, 35, was taken to the Royal London Hospital after being stopped in the last second of his eight-round fight with Sam Webb in Bethnal Green.

The Londoner collapsed in the dressing room, but his trainer Winston Fuller said the operation was a success.

York Hall is very close to the Royal London Hospital, the best hospital for emergency treatment in the whole country. Its where the London Air Ambulance is based. So he has the best possible chance.

Just a quick update on this......

Gibert has recovered (to an extent) but cannot work nor, obviously, box again.

A benefit evening has been organised for Gilbert at the Three Lords pub (near Aldgate tube) tomorrow night, starting at 6pm.

Admission is free, there will be a raffle and auction and any donations would be welcome.
