Amir Khan recorded a fourth-round stoppage of Scott Lawton to retain his Commonwealth lightweight title at the Nottingham Arena on Saturday evening.
Khan landed with a left-hook and followed up with a sustained flurry that pinned Lawton against the ropes and forced referee Victor Loughlin to intervene after 30 seconds of the fourth.
The Bolton fighter used his vastly superior hand speed to dominate during an impressive performance that answered some of the doubts raised by his display against Willie Limond three months ago.
Khan suffered his first knockdown as a professional against Limond, before getting off the floor to claim an unconvincing victory that placed an unflattering light on his boasts of imminent world domination.
But there were no such problems against Stoke's Lawton as Khan was consistently first to the punch due to his fast hands and text book footwork.
Khan worked hard to assert his dominance during the opening two rounds against Lawton's well-schooled, but light punching style.
Lawton's one bright moment came when he landed with a left early in the second, but he was clearly overwhelmed by the speed and sharpness of his opponent as the round progressed.
Khan dominated a more measured third round, before producing a stunning left-hook and following in with the decisive barrage in the early moments of the fourth.
Learning curve
"I had a lot of critics from the last fight - but that's boxing," Khan told ITV 1. "It's a learning curve. I proved a lot of my critics wrong.
"I'm a better fighter, and boxing's going right for me now - I'm going in the right direction.
"I caught him with some good shots to the body, because I knew he was weak down there."
"I'm learning a lot from these fights. Before you know it, my time will come."
