The general boxing thread

Wilder is the most dangerous of all the Heavyweights due to his head splitting punching power....but he's very immobile and struggled to overcome Ortiz last year who didn't look as good as AJ. So whilst Fury and Wilder are looking good currently, they're both one decent punch away from being back on the bottom rung of the ladder.

Fury has a chance to go down as the best ever.

He's like a bigger Larry Holmes.

If he beats Wilder, Ruiz and Joshua, he's already beat Klitch ......... then he'll be there.

.......... although prime Foreman may have something to say about it but if you can avoid Wilder's speedy bombs then you should be able to roll with Foremans slower hands.

Fury is much more similiar to Ali than Holmes. Fleet footed dancers with incredible reflexes and head movement but a lack of power compared to their contemporaries.

Fury also has a flicking jab like Ali did whereas Holmes' jab was like a piston.

Ali had more pop than Fury though, pillow fists are Tyson's one major deficiency.

Yep.

Just when everyone thought he was dead, he was sitting up like Michael Myers.

You can't quite relate him to Ali in his prime because Ali used to dance around like he was a Middle Weight, but yes when Ali got a bit older and slowed down on his feet a bit more then that is where Fury's movement is.

I used to love boxing like that .......... but then I got older and more bulky and am now more a straight power boxer.

What weight did you fight at?

What weight would you be now?

Has your style changed?

I fought at 13.05st / 187 lbs.

Now I'm currently 14.06 st / 202 lbs on my way back down to around 14st.

Yes my style has changed, I started boxing when I was 17 and I weighed just over 12st, I had the Roy Jones style going on and he was my favourite to watch because we were same height and weight.

Then as I got into my 20's I started filling out but I was still used to boxing like a MW so I had this hybrid hit and move but with power thing going on.

Then I got more heavy and older and the last time I sparred I realised how knackered I was getting from all the moving around and just assessed it and realised that I'm built now like a slimmer young Mike Tyson and that dancing around isn't for me any more, its not economical.
Now I'm more hands up, bob and weave and more singular punches.

You have to adapt with your body to use all your leverage properly.

Anyway tried my new style out on an ex Rugby player the other month and it was much more comfortable and effective, the range was good again, defence was there and I almost KO'ed him accidently.

Nice.

Long time away though, so we have Joshua getting beaten up again by a cholo in November or December then Fury vs Wilder.

I don't know why but I have a feeling Wilder is going to catch Fury this time.

If Fury wins he's going down as one if not the best HW's of all time.

Winner of each needs to face each other though.

Wilder vs Ruiz would be a great action fight imo, Andy would get some licks in but I'd fancy Wilder by some margin, against Fury though? that is a bad match up for Andy, I think Fury takes him 12 round decision in a clinic.

Also saying he wants Miller in October but i think it's smoke and mirrors... Page from the Arsenal book tbh... Miller is unlikely to get his license back by October but they can say "we tried" after they announce a nobody. Realistically ESPN aren't going to give him a tough fight now that Wilder vs Fury is official.

If it does happen though... Those press conferences...

Lmao at suggesting Miller is a tough challenge and Fury would duck him.

R.I.P Pernell Whittaker, he was hit by a car.

Just awful.

One of my all time favourites, the slickest boxer of all time.

Rest well Sweet Pea.
