Hatton to return!?!?!?!?!?!

Hatton to return!?!?!?!?!?!

Postby Est83 » Wed Sep 12, 2012 12:04 am

Ricky Hatton has called a news conference for Friday in Manchester when he is expected to announce his return to the ring.

The former WBA and IBF Light Welterweight champion and WBA Welterweight champion has not fought since his second-round defeat to Manny Pacquiao in May 2009 and he officially announced his retirement in July 2011.

The 33-year-old Mancunian has devoted himself to his burgeoning promotional work since then, but it appears that he has been tempted back into the ring himself.

Hatton has shed almost three stones in training this year, sparking rumours of an imminent comeback, which is expected to take place at the MEN Arena in Manchester on November 24. New Yorker Paulie Malignaggi has been touted as a possible future opponent. Hatton beat the American in Las Vegas in 2008.

Hatton had a 45-2 record as a professional when he hung up his gloves, his only defeats coming against boxing greats Pacquiao and Floyd Mayweather.

If Hatton's comeback is confirmed, it is likely the undercard would feature a majority of Hatton Promotions boxers, including Martin Murray, Anthony Crolla, Rendall Munroe and Scott Quigg.

Hatton is in the process of re-applying for a boxing licence with the British Boxing Board of Control, but barring any recent medical issues it is unthinkable that the 'Hitman' would be rejected.

Malignaggi won the WBA Welterweight title with a stoppage win over Vyacheslav Senchenko in Ukraine in April.

From Hatton's point of view, Malignaggi carries the significant advantage as an opponent of being a light puncher - only seven of his 31 wins have come inside the distance.

Bearing in mind the nature of his knockout losses to Pacquiao and Mayweather, that may be a factor in Hatton's considerations.

I could talk all day about how great - and underrated - this man is... I f**king love the guy! But he is surely past it!

He seemed to deal with the weight fluctuations between fights. No mater how fat he got he always got his fitness to the level where he was training for 16 round fights... but a three year fatty-boom-boom Guiness and fry-up binge will surely have taken it's toll!

In my opinion he's doing this for his promotional company.

Pacquaio got robbed, Mayweather wouldn't fight him even if he did win, Cotto hasn't been the same after the Margerito fight, Mallignaggi is the f**king champ (wtf)...... there's nothing to return for. It's not like the days of Judah, Mosely, Gatti (RIP), Tszyu etc. where there were more than just more than just one or two contenders.

Nothing in it for Hatton, don't know why he's doing this.

Nah VCC, can't see it. Not with his Promos.

I think he only quit cause he felt embarrassed about losing again, even though he has nothing to be ashamed of in the ring. He quit young and is still quite young. I don't think there is much left for him though except his fans.

He'll sell out the Etihad Stadium four times over given the chance.

You don't think 3 years of constant liver damage might have an effect?

There was talk of a Mayweather rematch as his return from retirement not even two years ago. Bit of a joke considering Mayweather wouldn't fight Pacman at one point purely because "he's already lost fights... why would I fight a loser?" etc etc.

Apparently they both spent time together after the first fight putting the pre-fight animosity behind them, talking about their love of the sport, blah blah blah... and talking about a possible rematch.
- Hatton rightly thought Cortez was biased, and was always itching for a rematch.
- Mayweather was talking about reaching out to his fans over here, and fighting in Manchester would draw a MASSIVE crowd... they packed out the MGM, imagine a fight over here! They would pack out Wembley!

Wouldn't be surprised if this was one of Hatton's proposed three fights... it's a shame it would end the same way the first fight did.

Check his earlier reasons... or excuses.

Originally it was because Pacquaio wasn't undefeated like Mayweather. Mayweather claimed to be too good. Then Pacquaio got the bigger fights and started winning fights at Mayweather's weight, put more pressure on Mayweather for the fight that everyone wanted to see.

Then Mayweather said he wanted the fight, but wanted Pacquaio to have drug testing throughout the build-up. He insisted on blood tests even though Pacquaio agreed to other methods of testing... don't think we'll see the fight now that Pacquaio's recently lost.

You talk like he's in his 40's.

He's 33 ffs.

He's smashed everyone except 2 of the very best who he actually had the balls to fight.

Been talking to a mate tonight and we decided we're going to it at the MEN.

And when did he actually smash everyone,,you`ll find it was when he was actually boxing and not 3-4yrs after he retired.
He`ll make a show of himself unfortunatly.....IMO

Tend to agree, if he does end up fighting him, he will just end up making Malinaggi look like Mayweather. Admittedly he looks in better shape nowadays but there is a gulf in difference between being in shape and being in fighting shape.

Cotto, Khan, Kell Brook, Canelo anyone with a big punch in their locker and/or the ability to go 12 rounds at pace will see him off.

Top end domestic or European level is a safer bet for Hitman if he wants to comeback but I think this is all motivated because him promotions company is flagging to be honest
