The general boxing thread

Didn't have too much science for GGG tonight. All I saw was the ring being cut off non stop for him

Canelo should have another L to his name but a female judge bails him out again

A different woman called his fight vs Mayweather a draw lmao

Oscar must be going high heel shopping with them for scorecards like this to happen

This did not look like a typical GGG fight.

He couldn't land his right hand, Canelo made him look foolish at times the way he was missing.

His power was nullified. Science.

Canelo is too slick and cerebral.

He will have learned a lot from this and has the skills to adapt, GGG will fight the same.

We'll see. Wasn't really convinced by Canelo but wasn't convinced at all with him against Mayweather (who does look good against him tbf) but that L was the best thing that happened to him

GGG proved that he has a legendary chin, got hit with so many clean shots yet it didn't phase him one bit. He puts the pressure on like that again I think it's only a matter of time

Was a good fight, but I'm really disapppojnted that GGG has an unwarranted draw on his record

(Fwiw I really like both boxers too, been my favourites for a while now)

Mayweather put on a clinic against canelo but canelo was way to weak that fight, massively weight drained, can't begin to compare the Canelo of that fight to a far healthier more experienced fighter.

Listen to DG on bets, I almost never get them wrong tbf.

The best one I ever called was Mayweather vs Delahoya.

Mate of mine bet on Delahoya because he's bigger and I told him exactly what will happen.

I said "This is likely to go to points because both are technical boxers, Mayweather will get the better of the exchanges because he's better and quicker but won't get the KO because he's naturally lighter and not that aggressive, I think it will be points decision to Mayweather".

Got it to a tee.

Regarding your $500, sorry for your loss, gonna be taking your dates to Mc'D's for the next two months?

What is your opinion on a rematch?

I'm going to double down on Canelo.

I think I'll have to watch it again before I make a proper prediction.

GGG won this fight because Canelo can't fight at the pace GGG sets so overall GGG will out point Canelo in almost every situation.

GGG took Canelo's best punches so for me if the shorter stockier guy can't keep GGG off him or hurt him enough to KO him then I'd ask you how is Canelo going to win?

I would happily endorse GGG as a worthy bet but this is the X-factor why this is a risky bet ..............

GGG's age.

GGG could do what he did last night to Canelo over and over again, my worry about placing a bet would be what if that was at age 35 GGG's last great fight?

But my final conclusion .........

Overall, Canelo showed he can't stop GGG and if he can't stop GGG then he can't out point him either meaning GGG should again edge a win.

But as I said that age X-Factor = If I were you I'd save your money to bet on an easier match to judge because the odds won't even be that great for the rematch to make it worth while.

If Canelo wins the rematch it'll only be because GGG's age has finally slowed him down, whether that happens or not is for me not worth betting on because if age isn't a factor in their next fight then I'd of bet on GGG and without the corrupt judge he'd of won.

I got my $500 refunded because it was a draw.

Ward retires, smart in a sense to go out on top, shame though he could have equalled or better mayweather.

No he couldn't.

He is turning 34 and is 18 fights away from equalling Mayweather.

Number of fights is a bit irrelevant because only the real top quality names matter, he was building a good resume, he was short of mayweather level of quality by a fair bit but in saying that maywetaher never fought a killer like kovalev and in some instances on mayweathers resume a fighter was way past it like paq or silly weight drained like canelo.

Ward needed another 5 quality names and a cruiser weight title to equal or surpass mayweather but he was well capable of doing it.

Mayweather's resume is light years better than Ward's.

Easily the best of his generation bar maybe Pacquiao.

The calibre of boxers Ward would need to beat in order to equal Floyd don't exist.
