I disagree with that mate.
Although Liverpool were "the" team to beat, Leeds, Man Utd and even the yids were also considered title challengers at the time.

Wasn't born in that era, so don't know.
I thought the Invincibles were better than the 91 squad. Marginally. Great flair and steel to go with it.

Arsenal's 90/91 team only had liverpool as any real threat.

The 03/04 boys had to contend with Manure's champions from the previous season, a fast improving Chavs, Geordies who finished in the top 4 previously and a Scouse team looking to make a long awaited challenge.

no different to our 98 and 02 league winning sides who only had united as challengers.

2004 you mention geordies, chavs and liverpool as challengers, they were no more challengers than leeds, palace and united were in 1991.

I dunno, but we let go the likes of Rocky and Limpar and then others like Adams and Mers were drinking to excess. And then the Manure's and Leeds and Blackburns were attracting players on big contracts. Granted, we spent big on Wrighty and Seaman but I just don't understand why we never kicked on? Maybe it was pulling down and rebuilding the North Bank and the money they said it would cost. Was it around the £10-15m mark? Did the Bond Scheme thing have something to do with it?

I was a young teenager then so, I didn't (and still don't) understand the politics of our football club.
Maybe some with better memories and greater knowledge can answer that. :dontknow:

Getting beat by Benfica in the European Cup in 91/92 had a profound effect on the way Stroller got the team to play.
Pre Benfica we played a very fast attacking game, identical to the 1998 team.
After Benfica beat us at Highbury, with a great display of counter-attacking football, Graham switched to a much more safety first style of play. He sacrificed flair players who would do stuff off the cuff and invested in players that would follow his instructions to the letter.
The first style saw us win league titles.
The second saw us become the cup kings.

I often wonder where we'd be now if GG was still in charge.

I think Graham could have been for us what Fergie has been for Utd if it wasn't for the bungs.

Arsenal wouldn't be noted for the kind of football they play these days though! Quite the opposite!

We'd be struggling.

I have no doubt about that. Though we won't conceded as many goals, but don't think we'll be as creative as we are now.

I don't think it'd be the lack of creativity that would be the main issue.

GG had developed a mistrust of any players who thought for themselves.
Anyone who didn't toe the party line was dispensed with.
Since the introduction of the Premier League, "player power" has gone through the roof.
George Graham would be facing a mutiny from his squad because of his ideas on how things should be done.
The players would get him the sack.

Ferguson managed it alright, offloading Beckham and Ronaldo after disputes. I think a few of our players could do with a manager who isn't affraid to upset people a bit more often!

Ferguson has been very clever at at only picking the battles he could win, Graham fell out with players and would happily cut off his nose to spite his face.
Ferguson has managed to change with the times, he's recognised that you have to give in a bit to the players.
Despite winning their first trophy in donkeys, the *** players wanted Graham gone because of his methods.
Graham himself has admitted that he hasn't returned to football as he can't manage a club in this day and age.

Just for the record, i idolised Stroller and he's still my favourite Arsenal manager.
