Starting to think Edu’s a bit of a gimp. Liked having him back when he first came in but unless he helps us get more young Brazilians superstars like Martinelli then he’s high on my list for f***ing off tbh.

Edu wants the club to move to a more data and analytics-driven approach which has proved so successful for the likes of Liverpool and Man City, and away from the old fashioned system of having scouts specialising in different locations around the world.

You need to do an eye test for players playing abroad, if you go by stats alone depay for example was a must buy but he couldn't hack it in the PL.m like loads of foreign players

You'd be surprised at what a well put together algorithm could tell you though.

Some baseball teams here apply a statistical technique over one that involves a lot of scouts and it works. The Red Sox adopted it and immediately won the World Series, and also the Cubs.

I do however think there needs to be a healthy balance between the two.

You need a balance between old-school scouting, data analysis, and a contacts-based approach. I don't think any club can go all in on one and be successful. Given that our scouting-led approach has resulted us singing the likes of Martinelli, and our agents-led one has resulted in Luiz and Cedric, I'm incredibly sceptical about this move. Especially when we seem to be buying Joorabchian's clients at a stupid rate.

At least now we know who to blame or credit if this fails or if it works. Ultimately we need to "outsmart the market", as Raul famously said, and that seems so much harder without a proper scouting network who can identify young talents before the bigger, richer clubs do. It seems instead that we'll just be taking on their cast offs who want one final big contract.

You can find young talent with statistics, and I don't mean just looking at numbers, I mean highly advanced algorithms that can predict certain things about a player. Like I said, it's being done in baseball. However, baseball is a very statistics driven sport, so it's possible it won't work as well in football.

But also like I said, I agree a healthy balance is needed.

It's a balance as many said. I don't believe it has to be one or the other.

Use data to generate analysis and stats on a shortlist of players identified through scouting networks.

Or in reverse, run some analysis on a broad player set and then send scouts to go and watch those identified as having potential in person.

Seems really strange to get rid of scout with such a strong track record as Cagigao. Although doesn't sound to dissimilar to the wording around Mislinat leaving.

Has it proven that successful for Man City? They've just spunked big money on well known stars.

so but for a work permit and a dodgy negotiation team, we'd have 4 CL's in the bag fs.
