I think it's easy to forget that back in 2004 Porto and Monaco both had some great players like Ribery, Deco etc, not to mention quality managers, especially Porto. We weren't even good enough in the CL to get knocked out by one of those teams thanks to our manager.

That said I remember United beat us by playing hoof ball in the FA Cup, then a week later Chelsea did the same thing in the CL, so they worked out there was no point trying to win the midfield battle, not when they could win the aerial battle with our central defenders instead. I seem to remember Cole missed the FA Cup and Ronaldo had a field day against Clichy, even though Cole had always done a great job on Ronaldo. Clichy gave him too much respect.

Even though the CL was the priority that FA Cup game may well have affected us going into the 2nd leg of the CL.

At the end of the day though it all came down to Wenger holding us back, that was the main reason we never won it. Now he can't even get us into the CL...

Saw a Stat the other day that the common Invincibles XI only started twice together

Interesting.

Wanna talk about an underperforming Arsenal side, check this one out:

Still have nightmares about that game. What was Wenger thinking putting Bendtner on the wing instead of Rosicky in the middle and Nasri on the right?

Don't know which Ribery you're referring to but Franck Ribery (current bayern player) has never played for either of those teams.

Benndtner didn't start in the cup final it was Rosicky, we would have won that game easy had Wenger done the logical thing and rested key players like Fabregas and Walcott against Stoke.

For the same reason that it's so rare for a team to win back to back league titles

Once a group of people have a great achievement they feel they have "arrived" and can take their foot off the gas

There are some rare exceptions but in those cases there was not only an Alfa male and natural leader wearing the arm band, but another one in the dug out.

We had an Omega male playing Enya in the changing room and pissing about with Ashley Cole's contract renewal.
