We got rid of Ozil instead of using him for the remainder of the season and are now looking to loan a 22yr old Real Madrid midfielder (who doesn't get a game) on loan as a replacement for the remainder of the season??? Makes little sense.

Makes perfect sense, the future of Arsenal has had NO OZIL in it for some time, it has just taken Ozil a while to accept and move on.
If we have to loan someone in the interim so be it, decision was made for what ever reasons before Arteta, at least Arteta could see the the plan through,
Ozil fans should be pleased he should burn the league with his skills now shouldnt he.

Ozil was costing £350k pw that's why it makes sense financially.

From what I can tell Ozil has allowed a reduction on the settlement for the remaining 6 months so he can go and cash in, in Fenerbache.

Not to mention the club as a whole refused to play him, its done, no point dragging it on.

The future of Arsenal is, hopefully, not developing players for Real Madrid.

That depends on how much we managed to slice off the remaining fee to Ozil vs how much would pay to loan someone till the end of the season.
Like for like would make no sense, nevermind a 22yr old who isn't good enough for Real.

Evidently we have saved 1.5 mil. Who in their right mind is going to loan Arsenal a CM for 1.5 mil (salary not included) in the middle of their season? Only options are players coming out of contract like Draxler.

That depends on two things, one we don't know if all AFC has saved is 1.5 mill the full details aren't out there yet, that is just the rumour.

............. however even if that's true.

Odegaard is on £80k pw.

When you loan a player it doesn't necessarily mean you pay his full wages, it means you pay a portion of it, how much is worked out by the clubs.

There's roughly 15 weeks left of the Prem after this window, so even if we paid all of Odegaard's wages that would equate to £1,200,000.

That's paid for and then some from the saving we made from paying Ozil, add to that we'd likely not be paying the full amount, lets say we agree with Real that we pay £50k pw, that's even more savings.

So guaranteed savings plus a CAM the club will actually use which is the main point.

Odegaard would be welcome. A very talented player entering his prime years. But we’d only get him for half a season. I don’t see Real selling him until his stock is high. It’s a bit risky bringing a young player into the league for six months. He really doesn’t have time to adapt. But that being said it would be very exciting to see him get on.

Loan signings really have worked well for us, not convinced bringing some kid mid season is the answer.

I can also see this being another Ceballos another loan at the end of the season, if he’s any good Real won’t sell.

You can’t build a team around loan players, I think loans in the middle of the season should be for emergencies only, this isn’t an emergency, it’s due to incompetence and poor planning.

Mesut Ozil is due to complete a long-awaited move to Turkish side Fenerbahce this month, but Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta says the "final step is the longest".

“The quarantine situation is making that final step the longest ever because they have a lot of restrictions there [in Turkey]," said Arteta.

"There things that have to be done before announcing anything. I think everything seems to be going OK but I cannot say definitely what is going to happen."

Asked if it was hard to let the German midfielder leave, Arteta said: “Yeah for many different reasons. There is a history here what happened in the last few years.

"How things develop and how the team should evolve for the future and his position at the club. A player with such an importance that is not playing and is not in the squad..it's a really difficult situation to sustain for both parties.

"The player wants to play and we cannot give him the minutes and obviously that situation has to be resolved.”

Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta said: “He’s a great footballer, he’s really talented footballer. He is a player that has done a lot for the football club but at the moment I want to take the team in a different direction.

"If we had more options maybe he was part of some plans. He was part of some plans at the start and he wasn’t in anymore at the end.”

Ozil is still costing £250k per week. Add to that whatever fee we need to pay this loanee and, back to Jayram's point, it makes no sense.
