What??? Theo is our fifth highest goalscorer. One goal behind Bergkamp despite playing on the wing. All those who have scored more than him are CFs.

He needed 4 chances to score one, in a time when we struggled at times to shoot until we were 6 yards out,
Read what I said under a different manager he may have been great.
For the most I remember a guy with Express pace the touch of an elephant and a guy you had to scream at the telly to fucken shoot.tjen he would inevitably cross and hit the sideline

I think Wenger made the mistake of playing him as a winger for far too long. He should have been played as a wide forward - period !

Nah.

Wenger tried playing him as a LAM in 14/15 when we used a 4-1-4-1 briefly.

It didn't work out. Wenger went back to using him as a CAM in a 4-2-3-1.

In 15/16, Wenger played Ramsey as a RAM to accommodate them both.

It was in the final months of 16/17 when Wenger switched to 3-4-3—after Santi's injury, to accommodate Xhaka—that Ozil played as a free floating RAM.

At the start of 16/17, we were closer to 4-4-1-1 with Oz behind Alexis than we were to a 4-2-3-1. Ozil ended the season with 12 goals and 14 assists—most number of goals he had scored in a season. It's just that Wenger knew how to use Ozil. 37 goals and 70 assists under Wenger.

See Ozil's PR team are trying hard to get him out of a driving ban - 97mph on a motorway would be an automatic ban for any of us - will Saint Ozil get off? After nearly a decade in the UK apparently he still doesn't know we use miles not kilometres ... ignorance is no excuse or is it if you're famous?

That excuse wouldn't even make sense if anyone tried it. 97 mph feels very different to 97 kph.

Make him walk, apparently does more movement than any of our other players so walking will come easy.

What’s the difference?

A forward is a striker, a winger is more concerned with creating chances. The traditional winger role became muddied with the likes of Ginola, Pires, Figo and Ronaldo who scored loads of goals. Walcott was not a winger, he was a forward being played as a winger. The wide forward position suited Theo because he was able to start in an advanced position and play off the shoulder of the full back. He was able to bend his runs or drift in between the full back and CB and make runs toward goal.

That is the difference between a winger (who stays wide and crosses the ball) and a wide forward (who starts wide but runs infield). You would expect a winger to get more assists than goals and a wide forward to get more goals than assists.

All I know is Walcott the winger - meh. Walcott the forward - decent.

Come back in this pit and see its somehow morphed into the Theo Walcott thread.

We should rename this thread the Mesut Walcött appreciation group for those who lived both these ex arsenal players.
