Ozil was costing £350k pw that's why it makes sense financially.

From what I can tell Ozil has allowed a reduction on the settlement for the remaining 6 months so he can go and cash in, in Fenerbache.

Not to mention the club as a whole refused to play him, its done, no point dragging it on.

That depends on how much we managed to slice off the remaining fee to Ozil vs how much would pay to loan someone till the end of the season.
Like for like would make no sense, nevermind a 22yr old who isn't good enough for Real.

Evidently we have saved 1.5 mil. Who in their right mind is going to loan Arsenal a CM for 1.5 mil (salary not included) in the middle of their season? Only options are players coming out of contract like Draxler.

That depends on two things, one we don't know if all AFC has saved is 1.5 mill the full details aren't out there yet, that is just the rumour.

............. however even if that's true.

Odegaard is on £80k pw.

When you loan a player it doesn't necessarily mean you pay his full wages, it means you pay a portion of it, how much is worked out by the clubs.

There's roughly 15 weeks left of the Prem after this window, so even if we paid all of Odegaard's wages that would equate to £1,200,000.

That's paid for and then some from the saving we made from paying Ozil, add to that we'd likely not be paying the full amount, lets say we agree with Real that we pay £50k pw, that's even more savings.

So guaranteed savings plus a CAM the club will actually use which is the main point.

Well, that was point really. Moneywise there is probably no difference (or not much) - which means the club decided that a 22yr old who doesn't play for his club is better than Ozil, also not playing for us.

The chances that this kid is going to offer more than Ozil would have over the second half of the season are slim to none.

i.e. we just weakened our options for little to no return.
It just emphasises again that this situation was never about football.

It will be interesting how effective Ozil is in the turkish league.
We may see why Arsenal chose to look elsewhere?

This saga is far from finished.
Ozil is going to have his say no doubt and this is a decision that Arteta will live or die by. If we finish outside the top 6 and have failed to have a much better second half of the season (in terms of creativity) Ozil's ghost will haunt Arteta and there will be no shortage of people calling him out on it.

I am aware he's not dead.
It's called a 'turn of phrase' and would be understood by a sumph.

Nope - apart from to a handful of fanboys Ozil is now history - he will haunt nobody and be irrelevant when it comes to this season's on field review. Arteta's future is looking solid, Ozil was a Board approved dismissal and that will have bought Arteta loads of credit as he finally ended that sorry saga. Ozil in footballing terms has long since been irrelevant ... as I said it's only the last few fanboys who believe different.

Ozil is history that is without doubt. But Arteta is not out of the woods as you suggest. He’s had a good run of games but despite that is sitting in the lower half of the table. The average term for a manager nowadays is 3 seasons so Arteta is not on solid ground yet.
