Monreal joins Real Sociedad

Nacho Monreal has joined La Liga side Real Sociedad in a permanent deal.

The Spanish left back joined us from Malaga in January 2013 and made 251 appearances, scoring 10 goals.

During his time with us, Nacho played in his natural left-back position and also in central defence. He won three FA Cups, three Community Shields and played a big part in our run to the Europa League final last season.

A full international since 2009, Nacho was part of the Spain squad at the 2018 World Cup. He’s made 22 appearances for his country.

We would like to thank Nacho for his contribution to the club and everyone at Arsenal wishes him the best for his future.

The transfer is subject to the completion of regulatory processes.

I think Vinai and Raul are onto something.

We sold our most experienced CB. We also "sold" our best defender and most experienced one after Kosc.

We signed David Luiz.

We now have a FB (Kolasinac) who is Mustafi levels bad at defending but great at attacking. We have Luiz who's Mustafi levels of bad at defending but probably our best player at build-up play.

Our senior RB is known more for his attacking side than his defensive capabilities. Our back-up RB is actually a CM.

The only defender we have who's great at defending is Sokratis. And, Holding to a lesser extent.

This definitely looks like a plan to force Emery to play attacking football this season. There's no chance in hell we'll ever be able to defend our way to victories this season.

Raul's Choice.

Very happy to see Monreal gone. More deadwood off the books.
No defender who has been part of our defensive shambles over the last few years should be allowed to stay at the club.

All the best, Donreal. A very reliant server of this club, but his lack of pace was an issue lately.
