Its funny how relatively recently players still had to keep one eye firmly on running a business or making sure that they had a job to go to when they finished playing
A few decades earlier than Charlier George and co, my Grandad was a successful businessman in the fifties and sixties. He was one of the first people to use football for corporate entertainment. His favourite party peice was to fly clients by private plane to go and watch Arsenal at away matches. This was in the fifties!
But the reason this is relevant is, he also used to approach Arsenal players and pay them a fee to attend a meeting with him. He'd introduce the player as his friend / business partner and afterwards the player would earn their money by having a drink or 10 with the client and tell them all about Arsenal.
I remember David Herd was one of the guys he mentioned.
