Great to get 3 points. Some positive performances but a long way to go and Emery needs fo establish a strong 11.

Xhaka and Mkhitaryan need benching. Left side of attack was weak because Xhaka could hardly pass the ball forward. A couple of quality passes won't make up for his overall performance.

Quiet game for Nelson. Not helped by what was going on behind him either. It will take some time for him so we'll need patience.

Willock started well but faded. Needs to drop deeper to collect the ball and not wait. Tactically, Emery needs to switch to a 4-3-3 because it's too easy for the opposition to block the ball from the AM.

Chambers looked good. Hopefully he can build his confidence from that performance.

Auba and Guendouzi were excellent.

Mkhi worst player for me. Please start Pepe from now on.

True, they'll definitely be one of the weakest sides in the league this season. We looked shaky against worse opposition last season though so I'll take it as a sign of progress nonetheless.

Guendouzi MOTM.

New players.
Ceballos - looked nervous when he came on, settled down a bit.
Pepe - didn't get a look in. Clear he's going to do no defensive work. (wonder what the Ozil haters will think of him?)

Youngsters - Nelson atrocious and Willock average. AMN average (good assist).

Regardless of any performance. 3pts. 1st game. Away from home.
Take it and run.

JayRam praising Auba .......... hell hath frozen over.

If he plays well, I will say so.
My hope before every game is that he will play well - the same with all our other players.

Mkhi made some great runs but his passing was horrendous. Really gone downhill from his Dortmund days.

Opta stats

Arsenal won and kept a clean sheet in their opening game of a Premier League season for the first time since 2008-09 (1-0 against West Brom). This clean sheet also equals their tally away from home for the entire 2018-19 Premier League season (one).

I feel like Ceballos needs to bulk up a bit for this league though. Honestly looks like a strong breeze would blow him over. Even his shirt hangs off him like it’s about 3 sizes too big.

I watched it in an Irish bar in Mallorca.....no Geordie’s, just Gooners and we were all very pleased with result.

Who we got next?

He's going to be next for the chop.

On £140m pw wages, we can do a lot better, was hoping he'd give us something this year for a guy of his level but he seriously needs to improve his games.

He has his moments but I want to see an improvement for the wages he's getting.

Ridiculous considering he provides nothing to the team apart from filling a space on the pitch

Some reports say he is on 180k, others say he is on 200k. His performances shouldn't give him more than 60k though.
