Impressed with how our young players performed, individually and collectively to put this Rapids side to the sword.

No regrets sacrificing a couple of hours of sleep to watch this.

I did not watch the game, but is it true that some of our senior players looked less interested?

Last season during pre season the kids looked fantastic but as soon as the senior came on the energy was different. Wouldn't be surprised if it were the same this season.

Its bordaline irresponsible to play kola in back 4 when he has zero defensive understanding. Every team will target him in back 4

I'd rather see these youngsters play than the losers in our first team.

You could tell some were rusty.

Lacazette, for example, couldn’t control a simple cross while unmarked and pretty much in front of an open net. Shots were flying into row z a lot of the times and they were by Lacazette and PEA in addition to some of the younger players.

Ozil always looks less interested but he was involved. Passing looked fine as evidenced by his pinpoint corner to Auba which should have been an assist for Ozil.

Kolasinac was making his marauding runs down the left side as usual and was keen about give-and-gos.

Chambers looked fine with the little that he had to deal with.

Not really tested imo. Like Chambers, he did ok with what he had to deal with. Don’t remember him doing anything of note

That not rusty, it's standard. Both are very erratic finishers. Between them they missed 36 big chances in the PL alone last year, PEA had 23 - the worst in the league.

The young kids looked better, coordinated, and had more to to prove than the senior players.
Chambers is still a calamity defender
Kolasinac though good in 352, is probably the worst LB we have had. Santos was better.

With the kids I was most impressed with Burton, Thompson, and Olayinka.
Good mentions are Nketiah, he is so matured above his age. He shone above the other attackers and controlled the attacking play, drifting in and out to receive balls like a true goal minded #10. Definitely has more in his locker and not just an out and out #9.
Saka is good but like any skilled winger, he needs to learn when a simple pass is better than an over dribble.
Martinelli was rusty but has a good balance of attack and defense traits. Something Welbeck lacked.

It's too early though and it's just the first game. I look forward to watching more these kids in the future

........ 1 - nil to The Arsenal

Thanks a lot, Mate. I've just watched the long highlights. And yes, rustyness aside, the kids were hungrier, especially Saka, Martinelli and Nketiah.
