02/09/18 | Cardiff City 2-3 Arsenal | Premier League

Emery is almost there, we would've drawn this last year. His sub decisions are solid.

Next game, I want the following lineup.

Cech (ease Leno in the cups)
Bellerin Mustafi Sokratis Monreal (Emery must spend big next season on D)
Guendouzi Torreira (solid defensive cover)
Ramsey (always puts a shift in from box to box)
Ozil (with the 3 midfielders above, it should give Ozil more protection)
Lacazette Aubameyang (dream team)

Xhaka simply doesn't deserve to even be on the bench. Far too error prone.

Start Leno.

Stay awake during set pieces.

These three things will go a long way in adding defensive solidity at the back.

I honestly think one of the challenges given to Emery when he took the job was to get Xhaka's value up to match what we paid.

This is the only reason I can fathom as to why he's first name on the team sheet for Emery.

He's a fkin liability and should be sold, Elneny is better than him.

His pass in the 45 minute was to risky maybe, but he is playing at least 10 of these every games. 9 times it will work, maybe one time not. Happens, no player has a 100% pass accuracy.

Besides this he had a good game, some good long balls into the run of Monreal. The first goal was still easy to defend, one cross can't be enough to score a goal against us.

Torreira allows him to play a more advanced role where he's much better. If Emery wants to continue starting Xhaka then he has to start Torreira next to him.

Arsenal scraping past teams like west ham and Cardiff is not a good look for things to come.

6 goals in two games.

Its obviously the defending that needs fixing, that is going to take time especially if Emery is not going to play Lich or start Torreia.

We don't have any other CB options.

missed game.
watched the 14 min soccer dose.
1) cech is an abomination with ball at feet. lenio incoming
2) our corner routines are more dangerous, scroed one, came close 2-3 times.
3) goofy defending of corners.
4) xhaka wrapping rope round own neck, will be replaced by torrito
5) auba/laca = nice

Massively. Most of our issues were caused by sloppy mistakes playing out from the back and stray passes.

Their second goal was actually well executed, I couldn't find an issue with it other than out defenders were mismatched and didn't have the height / strength to stop the headed cross or shot on goal.

First goal completely preventable.

Also we scored 3 goals against a team that parked the bus. Under Wenger we struggled massively in these games.

Ffs we had 1 away win in 2018 under him.

only 3 teams conceded more than us so far. We are averaging 2 goals conceded per match. And we ben very lucky. We could have easily conceded 12-14 goals first 4 matches

Exactly my point. Fix up as a defensive unit and we will be a serious team.

But how do we fix the defence? We have no good defenders.

It's not so much an individual thing. It's about the players getting the system.

Think back to when pottchetino and klopp arrived.

Both teams were on the end of some comedy scorelines and good wins... they both needed to either bring through or buy in the players to fit the systems.

Now their whole squads have adjusted, players have come in to do exactly what's needed and they've cut out the mistakes and look serious.

We have so long to go until we look like a proper unit learning wise and personnel wise.

I am massively disappointed Emery has not focused attention on our defending, ita clear to me he has not. No point stressing a high press if your defence is abysmal. Fix the defending first then work on the team press.

In fact, for his first few games I wouldn't even have minded him being super negative and playing 1 up top and 5 across the middle in a more defensive action, to make us difficult to score against and difficult to beat. Once the defence understand the Role and show they can defend I would let the reigns off the attacking force. But creating a bullet proof defence would have been my priority.
