Also, on the lack of shots on target, why are we not taking shots from outside the box when it becomes clear threading through into the area is posing a challenge?

Arteta should just go for cup games now. FA Cup and Carling might give him another season. League is a little too far now if citeh go 8 points clear.

Trophies are overrated

Spurs get by perfectly well without them, so why can’t we?

It's even worse than that. Spurs don't win anything either but at least they play attacking football. Our brand of football right now is f***ing dull.

That assumes that mental and tactical energy is 100% fungible and can be moved in and out between games and competitions, with no loss of efficiency.

Sporting taking us out of the EL in 2023 precipitated a collapse in league form when we were 8 points at the top, and finished 5 points behind City.

In 21/22, Liverpool were laughed at for collapsing in the league after starting very strongly, after much talk of a potential quadruple. They still made LC, FA and CL finals that year and won 2 of them. That's the absolute best we can hope for this season.

What a horrible performance, lack of energy, imagination and passion. Feel sorry for those who travelled. We have become so pedestrian and predictable, where is the pace and passing of recent years?
I have been a supporter of Arteta, not an apologist or fan boy. I felt he was taking the club in the right direction, but he seems to have changed his own approach. We are dire to watch at times....80 plus minutes after their goal today we were hoping for a lucky break because the goal was never coming from incisive play .
Early days but the Premier League is a write off for us now, and it would take monumental events elsewhere to change that.
Where to from here. ? How do you get a return to form from individual players like White, Martinelli and Trossard? Merino looks very wooden in midfield. It is a worry, not in the sense of losing games, but in the performance in those losses.

Yes, absolutely. He fucks around too much with a successful formula. There was no need for such a drastic change in tac from last season, even with Ode out.

As far as I'm concerned Merino is doing exactly what he should be. He's a utility player. He provides physicality, solidity and keeps things ticking. That's all he's ever been. But he's being played in a way as if he's more. No shit, we end up looking inert.

Oh absolutely, that has to be a goal. Same as Nelli's chance against Bournemouth.

I just think people's focus is more on the overall performance because it was THAT bad.
