Tbf what is a Yank doing refereeing a WC match?

FIFA prioritise political correctness and geographical diversity over competence and ability.

Thing is, over 80% of world's most experienced referees are European and as an organization FIFA can't afford to let a world cup be officiated by almost solely European officials, without causing a huge shitstorm in Asia, Africa Central, North and South America.

Having said that, while the officiating hasn't been perfect, with the help of VAR, but particularly GL-tech, the amount of errors and subsequent controversies have reduced drastically.

Your argument goes out the window when you consider that only referees from countries which did not qualify are chosen

Referees from most of the high profile leagues in Europe cant be selected

And I don't see why a Scottish referee for example would be any more qualified than an American. The Scottish league is toilet.

Except that's not true, though is it? :dontknow:

There are over a dozen referees active at this very World Cup from countries that participate(d) in the current tournament.

Malang Diedhiou - Senegal
Wilmar Roldan - Colombia
Ryuji Sato - Japan
Néstor Pitana - Argentina
César Arturo Ramos - Mexico
John Pitti - Panama
Szymon Marciniak - Poland
Ricardo Montero - Costa Rica
Felix Brych - Germany
Andrés Cunha - Uruguay
Sergei Karasev - Russia
Milorad Mažić - Serbia
Clément Turpin - France
Antonio Mateu Lahoz - Spain
Alireza Faghani - Iran
Ghead Grisha - Egypt
Sandro Ricci - Brazil

That's not true though? An Argentinian ref will officiate France - Uruguay, a Brazilian one for Russia - Croatia

Surely his "member of the year 2014" rank should be revoked for this shocker?

Ospina must be the only keeper ever that is criticised for letting a penalty in. Wtf

Lmao at the irony

Ospina going 1 for 5 in a shootout is a bit different than Cech going 0/15 across three seasons.
Agreed, but i still found it funny

This is just ignorant, mate. What makes European referees more experienced than others? There just isn't any justification for that argument other than European arrogance

In all fairness to American TV I have been catching up on a lot of pre/ half time and post match comment
Having watched the actual games mostly with a lot of noisy cab drivers
And there is an awful lot of don't write off the Germans
Spain going thru the gears going on
This tournament is proving to be a very tricky one to cliché

No pundits, hardly any reaction to the games.

And straight to the England camp

Really poor mate
Like some generic Eurosport package from Italian 90
You can't move for pundits out there and they can't do better than this?

And if he didn’t, VAR could have fixed it, which isn’t Americans. So falcao can fu** off. He’s a pile of trash now anyway.

Did they deserve to lose? Why? They had more opportunities to score over the full 120 minutes.

Because they lost
