Unfortunately FIFA and common sense don't always go hand in hand.

I think the only problem seems to be logistics
They like the fans and players etc to have a plan so they can sort out security/ hotels bases etc
The fact that the last set of group games are over 4 days seems to make it advantages to some and not other
You could have a 5 day rested Uruguay playing a 2 day rested Belgium
I'm sure if it happened in enough games though and TV interest dwindled Fifa would address it
Maybe 3 team groups in 2026 will keep all matchs live to the last set?

Was only 2 games it happened in and you can just not watch. Also gives great opportunity to use the squad and give some lesser players a game at the world cup.

No biggie for me, knew it was gonna be shit and watched it all anyway by choice. France v Denmark was the other but in both cases top of the group was at stake had it been wanted. Don't see a need to make changes.

Good point about the logistics part - I should've given it more thought at the time.

Sadly 'biscotto' type matches are also possible in a 3-team group - even with hypothetical group stage penalty shootouts, albeit less likely it's still possible.

I guess there is no flawless system under the current format.
