Plus the fuss is about WHEN it's used rather than how long. It's been so inconsistently used.

Denmark v Australia

Argentina penalty which messi missed was never a penalty

Costa first v Portugal

They've had some shockers

Poor penalty by Ronaldo.

He's human.

Its used for everything

They'll have looked at that and thought Pique two footer was fine

Yep, haven't seen if Aspas offside but VAR says he was on so goal given. BS pen for Iran, resounding view is ridiculous call, VAR given.

VAR was used for something the ref missed with Ronaldo and he got booked. Wasn't used for Pique 2 foot tackle, no foul or card given.

Consistency.... :dontknow:

Didn't think it was that bad tbh, one of those that looks great if keeper goes the wrong way but gives the keeper a chance if he guesses right. Was well hit but a bit too 'middle height middle width; so tall keeper was gonna save it.

Should do better, particularly when he's desperate for golden boot.

gotta remember that its down to the refs in the millennium falcon and their opinion of whats red and whats not too

ive liked it so far and of course theres gonna be bumps with something new but itll only improve over time

think of the confederations cup, it was rubbish and unclear back then, its a lot better and understandable now in one year

He didn't even get booked for it ffs.

VAR is class though apparently :dontknow:

Shearer spot on with his comments after the match.

VAR is good imo but FIFA needs to clarify how it's going to be used. Does the ref need to ask for assistance or will the video assistant referees notify him when he's made a mistake? So far it's looking like its the former. If they're adamant that it has to stay that way then they need to add a "challenge" system similar to the one in Tennis where the coach would be able to appeal a decision 3 times during a game. Regardless it can't stay this way, it's too shady and considering FIFAs reputation i wouldn't be surprised if they left it that way on purpose.

Imo a well-executed penalty is unsavable - even if the goalkeeper goes the right way, legally, thus without taking two steps forward to narrow the angle and get away with it.
