Martinez could've replaced him up to today but doesnt

Same with Vermaelen.

Both made out of glass but considering the dross alternatives he hasn't really got a choice.

No more C-team defenders like during the Euros against Wales.

I'll put my cards on the table and say that I've come round eventually to backing our lads to do well

I've been overwhelmingly negative about England and international football for some time now and I think justifiably so. After investing so much emotionally in 96, 98, 00, 02, 04 etc etc it really wares you down

But I think something is different this time and the key word is honesty. I think they genuinely feel confident, and I think they genuinely want to do well.

Southgate has done the right thing. He knows he'll never win with ability/technique/skill. He has to win the psychological match, and get the players to buy into the team effort.

In short, we need to do what Iceland do and hope that the Spurs pricks add a bit of quality into the mix. Difficult to swallow but that's what it is, so hay

Come on England!

Groups A-F have all played

Time for the main event

Group G enters the world cup

Belgium v Panama up first. Need a Belgian clean sheet and goals from Lukaku

Then the one the world has been waiting for

This is an extremely poor WC regarding favourites performances, if they can't do anything here then we don't deserve it.

0-0 HT

Belgians are woeful

Panama comfortable

Hazard and KDB terrible.

Lukaku starved of service. Mertens haven't touched the ball yet.

Time for Fellaini
