I guess this match is now important for both teams as Liverpool can now get the 4th spot if they win the europa league.

As long as we don;t loose we should be ok but given that we will more than likely loose now.

that would only matter if shitty won the CL and didn't amke top 4. What liverpool do in europa is irrelevant now. england woud get 5 teams in cl if pool win the europa.

the only european match this week that influenced this game was madrid 1-0 city.

city now need to fight for top 4 as they don't have their backup route. liverpool mean fvck all for the top 4.

ys that fourth spot is a lemon with two extra fixtures before you start the season.

Pelegrini needs to give Pep a real test and let him inherit a Europa team

Wait I don't get this.

If City finished 5th for arguments sake, and then won the CL, then like in 2012 only the top 3 would get CL spots, right? So if someone in your league wins the CL but can't finish top 4 then the league as a whole gets no reward.

However, if someone that finishes outside of top 4 wins a lesser competition, ie the Europe league, then the league gets an extra spot?

If City finished 5th and won the CL we would get 5 spots.

If City finished 4th and Liverpool won Europa we would get 5 spots.

If City finished 5th and City AND Liverpool both won their European competitions - then we get 5 spots and 4th place goes to Europa.

Max is 5 spots - so for the top 3 leagues then this is the new scenario. For everyone else it means fvck all as they would just get the extra spots on top of their usual 2 or 3 CL places.

Should be a completion for teams who won their leagues, it would be an elite tournament and each game would be special. The current format is crap, ive lost all interest in it.

Agree that it needs a shake-up to some extent.

There's such an elitism of sorts when comparing the Champions League to the Europa League, when in actual fact a lot of teams in the Europa are actually stronger than those in the Champions League.
