Who would be in your England squad for the Euros?

Postby Callum » Sun Apr 03, 2016 9:01 pm

If you were Roy Hodgson, who would be the 23 players you'd take to the European Championships this summer?

You'll need a minimum of three goalkeepers.

Here's mine:

GOALKEEPERS

1. Fraser FORSTER (Southampton)
2. Ben FOSTER (West Bromwich Albion
3. Joe HART (Manchester City)

DEFENDERS

4. Ryan BERTRAND (Southampton)
5. Gary CAHILL (Chelsea)
6. Nathaniel CLYNE (Liverpool)
7. Phil JONES (Manchester United)
8. Danny ROSE (Tottenham Hotspur)
9. Chris SMALLING (Manchester United)
10. John STONES (Everton)
11. Kyle WALKER (Tottenham Hotspur)

MIDFIELDERS

12. Dele ALLI (Tottenham Hotspur)
13. Ross BARKLEY (Everton)
14. Eric DIER (Tottenham Hotspur)
15. Jordan HENDERSON (Liverpool)
16. Adam LALLANA (Liverpool)
17. Raheem STERLING (Manchester City)
18. Jack WILSHERE (Arsenal)

FORWARDS

19. Harry KANE (Tottenham Hotspur)
20. Wayne ROONEY (Manchester United)
21. Daniel STURRIDGE (Liverpool)
22. Jamie VARDY (Leicester City)
23. Danny WELBECK (Arsenal)

---

Actually much harder than I thought. I wanted to take the Ox but there was no room, and the likes of Milner and Carrick would be decent utility/ back-up options but there's a lot of competition in that midfield. The forwards pick themselves though - Theo doesn't deserve to go.

My starting XI would be:

Hart
Clyne - Smalling - Cahill - Bertrand
Dier - Wilshere
Sterling - Alli - Welbeck
Kane

Reckon Welbeck is a safer bet than Vardy against the bigger sides as we'll be relying on his workrate to help us defend properly and mount a counter. Vardy would probably be more effective against shit countries like Wales.

Hart, Foster, Forster

Clyne, Walker, Shaw, Rose, Smalling, Cahill, Stones Jagielka

Theo, Alli, Welbeck, Henderson, Dier, Barkley, Ox, Sterling

Rooney, Kane, Vardy Sturridge

Shaw and sterling if they are fit which isn't a guarantee.

Shocker from Cripps. Bringing Chamberlain.

Gibbs is more deserving of going than Chamberlain.

Did this with my mates the other day so fairly easy.

Here's mine:

GOALKEEPERS

1. Joe HART
2. Fraser FORSTER (Southampton)
3. Ben FOSTER (West Bromwich Albion)

DEFENDERS

4. Ryan BERTRAND (Southampton)
5. John TERRY (Chelsea)
6. Nathaniel CLYNE (Liverpool)
7. Phil JONES (Manchester United)
8. Leighton BAINES
9. Chris SMALLING (Manchester United)
10. John STONES (Everton)
11. Kyle WALKER (Tottenham Hotspur)

MIDFIELDERS

12. Jack WILSLAD
13. Dele ALLI (Tottenham Hotspur)
14. Michael CARRICK
15. Jordan HENDERSON (Liverpool)
16. Adam LALLANA (Liverpool)
17. Raheem STERLING (Manchester City)
18. Theo WALCOTT

FORWARDS

19. Harry KANE (Tottenham Hotspur)
20. Wayne ROONEY (Manchester United)
21. Daniel STURRIDGE (Liverpool)
22. Jamie VARDY (Leicester City)
23. Danny WELBECK (Arsenal)

---

My starting XI would be:

Hart
Clyne - Smalling - Terry - Bertrand
Hendo - Wilshere
Stuzza - Lallana - Welbeck
Kane

Cba with Dier he tailed off, either him or Walker miss out depending where you use Jones (CB/RB or CB/DM). Carrick and Baines experience is vital, Rose is hit and miss for me so he can stay home while Carrick is easy to pick since our CMs are average. Walcott goes for his impact sub ability while Barkley is just shite.

Dier is nailed on for me. Comfortably the best defensive midfielder we have.

Liked him early on in the season, now think he's just pretty average. Rather take Carrick's exp and use dirty Jones at DM if need. With Wilshere sitting we should have more of the ball and can use runner Hendo next to him for enough stability. Frees up Lalla or Alli to play CAM.

I think the options in the England squad point to an old fashioned 442 being a real possibility, with Vardy and Kane both playing

Honestly I wouldn't take Rooney and Wilshere. Wilshere hasn't done anything in a year and Rooney is worse than Kane and Sturridge. He'd be only a backup and with his status in England, that might not be a good idea. You have no CBs other than Smalling. Jagielka and Stones come from an atrocious defending team in Everton and Funes Mori has been as good as them this season. Cahill is probably not a starter if they had Zouma, Terry has been off form. Shawcross might have been a viable option but he never gets a call.

Hart, Forster, Foster

Walker, Clyne, Smalling, Jagielka, Stones, Cahill, Bertrand, Rose

Dier, Alli, Henderson, Lallana, Milner, Sterling, Barkley, Drinkwater

Vardy, Kane, Welbeck, Sturridge

Hart

Walker - Smalling - Jagielka - Rose

Dier - Henderson

Vardy - Lallana - Sterling

Kane
