Love the guy but don't think he was anything special.

Gomez made the big difference to their team so i'd say he has to be the best German player, even if he wasn't amazing either.

Gomez was poor. He missed a couple of gimmes in the limited time he saw.

He made a difference because he was the only guy that could be played as a striker and allowed better player/ball movement, especially for Muller. He made a tactical difference in how Germany approached the game and attacked but his production on an individual basis was poor.

Mesut wasnt great but he was solid overall. Still created about 8 chances a game and made the Opta Best XI team of the tournament based on stats. Germans controlled the midfield in every match they played and a lot of that was because of the play of Kroos, Ozil, Khedira, and Schweinsteiger.

My vote for the best would actually go to Boateng. Other than the boneheaded hand ball, IMO he was Germany's best player.

My vote for the worst Germans would go to Muller and Gotze.

I only brought the vote results in to show that Mesut wasnt bad as a few here would have you believe. Numbers certainly dont support their claim and neither does the eye test. Heck, if Germany actually had a capable striker for the tournament, Ozil would have racked up several more assists and germany would have won the tournament.

fwiw,

created 8 chances a game...

hm...

wtf is a "created chance" i just about every game they played.
i would NEVER say that they had 8 chances a game.

8?? c'mon.

loved ozil from the first time i saw him.

but his dynamism only seems, to me, to have waned.

Not surprised that a resident Ozil hater got agitated by the vote results and him being included on the Opta team..

Maybe you should take up your disagreement up with Opta and why they included him in their Best XI team.

Make sure to include your usual "He was a complete non factor" arguments that you usually used in the Euro game threads! :rofll:

i ask... what is "a chance"

if i, under no pressure, pass the ball sideways to someone 25 yds from,
goal, and he takes a couple steps and decides to have a go and floats it lamely intothe keeprs arms, whcih is a "save"

is that a chance?

is there some vid of all these phantom "chances created"

so Germany should have been scoring, what 6 goals a game?

Yes, that is a chance created. And as easy as it sounds when you hyperbolically describe, Ozil is still much better at it than anyone else in the world. So much so that no player has ever created as many as he did in the PL last season, and why despite not racking up the numbers he was still the most influential AM in the tournament.
