Arsneal~Fanatic's Take

So why did Wenger choose Ox and Sanchez on the flanks? I know Sanchez is a no brainer but Ox brings a lot of energy, work rate and can run up and down all day long protecting his full back. Ox did not have a good game yesterday as he turned over possession many a times and made some poor decisions in the final third but i can see the thought process behind him getting the nod. Mind you i am a big fan of Theo but Wenger was justified in starting Ox ahead of Theo especially in light of Theo's recent return from injury. Ox and Sanchez along with Bellerin and Monreal stifled Manchester City's wing play forcing Jesus Navas to make some atrocious crosses you will ever see.

At the heart of defence Koscielny and Mertesacker were alert, solid and read the game well. They were massively helped by Coquelin who not only ably manned the midfield, rendered Nandonido impotent and acted as a first line of defence in front of our centerbacks. Ramsey imho did not have a great game as he imho shunned his defensive duties far too often. It was not dues to lack of effort rather lack of application. His partner in the center of the park Cazorla showed size cannot be a hindrance if you have the grit. The way he rode so many challenges, completed some exquisite passes and controlled the central area of the pitch was a lesson for any young aspiring footballer. Coquelin and Cazorla rendered Silva completely ineffective. By half time they had zero shots on target.

Giroud kept both Kompany and Zabaleta at his mercy for the duration of the game. The way he held the ball up, took his chance for the goal and generally dominated City's defenders was a great sight. Ospina did not have much to do in the game but whatever little he had he dealt with it comfortably.

People are saying how we parked the bus and hit City on the counter. I say we let City have the ball in non dangerous areas of the pitch from where they could not hurt us. Scoring early was an advantage but how often have we seen our players get behind the ball with due diligence like we did yesterday? How often have we seen our players put in so much work when we did not have the ball? We played on City's patience and did not go gung ho like we have done in the past. Actually if you see it was not like we were sitting around 18 yard box waiting for City to mount attack after attack so to say we parked the bus is a complete exaggeration. By the end of the game they had 4 shots on target in comparison to our three.

The most heartening aspect for me was the way we dealt with the corner kicks. city won numerous corners but failed to score. We were alert and guarded the area with aplomb. I say even if the game had gone for another hour City would not have scored which is the biggest take away for me from this game. A complete performance where we not just defended well but kept control of the vital areas of the pitch.

The most impressive thing for me was that we knew exactly when to close down and when to back off.

Fernandinho's got the ball 30 yards from goal? He can keep it. Silva picks it up on the edge of the box? Then the team were all over him like flies on shit.

Our first goal was also the first Premier League penalty Dean has awarded to Arsenal since 13 September 2008 (4-0 away to Blackburn).

First rule of football is to play your best players in their best positions.

Formations actually are secondary, you either buy the right players to fit your formation like Mourinho does or you adhere to rule 1.

Not one player yesterday was played out of their favored position ......... not one.

That's how you gain this type of form.

Even Brendan Rodgers knows this. Got the job at Pool impressing the owners FSG with a binder full of strategies and ways to fix what Pool were doing wrong.

Threw that out the window once Suarez, and Sturridge starting linking up well.

This season? The dream is dead and he is back to trying out random tactics including playing Skrtel as CF because he didn't have strikers on the bench :D

Neil Ashton did it and he was the dude who made the 'stealing a living' remarks about Ozil last season. Absolute f***ing cretin.
