Could it be he's upping his play now that he has genuine competition in Welbeck? He was never going to be pushed when Bendtner and Sanogo were his only competition.
Whatever the reason, I'm very pleased to see it as I've often been vocal about his shortcomings. An inspired Giroud could be vital over the hectic Christmas period.
I think its more to do with that we actually are fielding two ST's and others (Podolski) who have striker like mentality instead of ball carriers like Ox.
We're bound to seem more dangerous when they're all attacking the goal, Giroud is a good point man but Welbeck makes up for his lack of pace and mobility so we don't look like we have obvious weaknesses that we see when there is only one of them playing.
A world class striker can do it on his own, we have two mediocre strikers so we need both.
