Quality-wise more like the Irish league - though the type of football is less physical and leans more toward the technical/attacking side. High lines, negligible pressing, more space and time.
Ajax', Utrecht's and PSV's reserves (Jong Ajax/Jong Utrecht/Jong PSV) play in the
Eerste Divisie and are not eligible to get promoted should they win the division title and are excluded from the
Eredivisie promition play-offs. Their squads consist out of first team outcasts and academy graduates.
Many other Eredivisie clubs loan their players out to
Eerste Divisie sides or to what they call "satellite clubs". For example Excelsior used to be a
satellite club of Feyenoord for nearly 20 years until 2016.
The Eerste Divisie is basically packed with young players learning their trade. The average age is only 23.8 which is the lowest in Europe's divisions.
